  • My freezer needs minimising, I have lots in there, fish, veg and meat, but most of the meat is cooked and sliced ready for roast dinners, I'll use one box of meat tomorrow.
Next week hubby is on late shift so he won't want an evening meal, I shall have jacket potato or egg on toast for mine.

Minimised some salmon, carrots, cauli & runner beans from the freezer for tea. Must get this freezer emptied!

Made a baby hat, just starting some bootees, will do the poncho too at some point.

Not really sure if I have made do today, will have to think about that!

Last nights left overs are being reheated for your tea, ds1 fancied some beef burgers from the freezer.
I'm currently making a cross stitch panel to put on a cushion for my sisters anniversary gift so that will minimise some stash and save a it of money as I have everything in even a cushion pad.
We've also watched two DVDs today one was borrowed so that can go back to its owner.

Hope all are well and having an mmm weekend.

  • Evening all,

After reviewing the budget I've just about finished two weeks worth of making do menu plans and shopping lists--we seem to have spent more than we though on various things--nothing particularly frivolous actually, but nonetheless we both agreed that rather than dip into savings we'll cut our cloth for the rest of the month. I've just been to consult our freezer wealth and discovered some real gems, so we won't suffer in the least.

I've done a bit more minimizing--a chipped mug on my dressing table was holding bits--I still need those bits but as I've minimized other things they can now go elsewhere and the mug is in the CS pile although I'm not sure they'll take it being chipped--thoughts?

I haven't done any mending today, although I've discovered a couple of rips in my coat so will do those tomorrow.

I have knitted and I made a new cake--it is called a cottage cake. I've also made hot pink petit four icing for it as I'd never made a cooked icing before. It is bright. I imagine it will taste a bit like a giant french fancy. :rotfl:

Question: Do any of you have any tried and true wheat free recipes, particularly for puddings? I anticipate having a guest soon who cannot eat wheat (wheat, rather than gluten specifically). The only idea I can think of from my current repertoire is chocolate mousse or rice pudding and I'm not liking the sound of the mousse and I may end up serving rice with the main.

Lynplatinum - Pineapple fruit cake freezes well. It's boiled fruit cake with some of the weight of the fruit made up with mushed up pineapple.
FairyPrincessk - You could make crumbles with rice flour instead of wheat flour. There is a gf chocolate spice cake and others on lakeland.co.uk website. It has no flour at all.

We had to get the car mended today. The gears felt like they were moving through treacle. Apparently the rods and brushes needed cleaning. Do I sound like I know what I'm talking about?
Thankfully a good friend did the work for us, so we didn't have to pay garage prices.

I've pinned the zips into the Christmas cushions ready to sew them in, so is that making do as well as mending?

The contents of the cupboard and the freezers are now all written in a small notebook to make meal planning easier.

I'm minimizing my book stash - I've put out about 20 to go to the cs.

I would bin the mug to be honest, as I can't see anyone wanting to buy it.

As for pudding, why not do a nice fruit salad with cream? If you are having a rice dish for the main course, a light sweet like that would be ideal :)

FPK I have some coconut flour which when added to wheat free/gluten free flour makes a fab chocolate pear crumble - I could send you some, along with some WF/GF flour if you like, to save buying it? I always have WF/GF flour in for paid-for baking and SiL who is WF/GF.

Nursemaggie - could you sew some plain cotton edging 3/4 inches wide to your existing curtains so they meet in the middle. It wouldn't be as expensive as new curtains and you could perhaps coordinate it with your room scheme? Maybe a pair of tie backs in the same fabric would be a finishing touch?
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
