Make do, Mend and Minimise in 2016

Morning all
Hope everyone is as well as they can be, hugs where needed.
I've spent most of the week kondoing paper and cardboard from the attic I've lost count of the amount of bags I've put out for recycling this week. Yesterday we took our old but working dyson and two that had been kept as spares round to a local guy who services repairs and sells all models, we told him we were happy for him to have them as it kept them out of the landfill. My ironing basket has been minimised and everything put away.
Today's plan is
Minimise two tubs of weed killer onto mils gravel to hopefully kill off the marestails, and fill her garden waste bin with the stuff I cut back last week that wouldn't fit in the bin.
Put some more card and paper recycling out here - it will all be collected on Friday.
Mend. I have a pair of DHs work out ers and a hoodie of ds2s on the mending pile.
Make do. Jacket pots for lunch to use them up.SPC~12 ot 124

I am reliably informed that you have to bruise and bash marestail before putting on the weedkiller, but you probably know this!Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

I had heavy boots on and stamped all over the gravel before watering it so hopefully that will have been sufficient bruising and bashing.:D but thank you for the tip I only learned it this year, it is hateful stuff that I wage war on every year.SPC~12 ot 124

Evening all
As you know I am trying to regain my frugality now that I am in my new place. The only way that I can afford to semi retire early. am trying to keep to £10 food and cleaning stuff + £10 treats money.
Well, my week finishes on Friday. the Treats purse is very low - into £1 + shrapnel (going walkies and having an ice cream). So, I finished sorting out and putting away my entire stock of linen and putting it all into moth proof bags and LABELING them (this is vital - stops you opening every bag when looking for stuff!
It was 4 o'clock. My usual time for a cuppa and my foodie treat of HM cake which has less sugar and fat in than most commercial ones.
But I fancied going to see the sea. (which is why I moved here !!)
Genius struck! Took tea (well hot water in flask and other bits) + slice of cake to the beach. Had a paddle and watched the very high waves crashing along the shore (high tide) and then found a sheltered spot for my snack.
Such a treat! It rained at one point but I had my plastic coat in my bag and sat on sand with cuppa watching the waves.
The best make do - ever??? :rotfl:
Minimise - more flippin paper shredded - but pleased with self as my minimising of linen before I moved worked in that I actually wanted all of the stuff I had moved with
Mend - not yet!

Morning all
Lyn, your make do day sounds perfect- I'm guessing you aren't still in the midlands then, which coast did you pick if you don't mind me asking?
I didn't get round to the mending yesterday so will get the sewing machine out today.
Make do will have last nights left over stuff squashes for lunch
Minimise got some bags of crisps no one in the house eats that flavour of to give to a friend.
I also need to cut the sweetpeas back and gather the seeds.SPC~12 ot 124

Good morning everyone!
Still MMMing on here - which is why we ended up at Mr T's last night. Managed to get some GF bread for 10p or 14p a loaf!
However, the fresh fruit and veg reductions was an experience I am not keen to repeat - EVER!!!!! There were some women hanging around the section for over half an hour and then a young lad and girl wheeled out the green trays to put them in the section and they pounced like a fully trained SWAT team! They poor staff retreated for their own safety without getting one tray into the section and they behaved like rabid animals grabbing anything and everything they could. I rather bluntly told one that if she shoved me one more time I would shove her back. My poor husband was trying to protect me (the carpal tunnel surgery is taking forever to heal!) and there were some other women who were watching it all unfold with horrified looks on their faces.
Afterwards these women were all huddled together LAUGHING at how much they got and how they got it! I know we all love a bargain but this was just greed - pure and simple. I felt so sorry for the staff and made a point of going up to them and apologising for their behaviour and ensuring they were ok. I was so incensed that these poor people were just trying to do their jobs and were practically beaten up - no wonder they were reducing the stuff in the back!!!!! I will never go to that store again and the store manager should ban those people - I feel a letter coming on.......0 -

If you are storing them for a long time, placing them in a freezer for a couple of weeks (assuming they fit of course) will insure that if any eggs or larvae are already on the linen, they will be killed off before they can hatch while you are blissfully unaware.
In the warmth where I live, the battle to stay at least one step ahead of the insect life that wants to eat either you or your possessions is constant! :eek:Aiming for a Champagne Lifestyle on a Lemonade Budget
