Welcome hollysnan
My 9kg washer has a fast wash which I use most of the time. 1600 spin and 60c makes it 1.15 hrs, if I drop the temp to 40 it's 43 mins long. Which gets everything but the filthiest stuff clean.£400,000 starting Jan 2020 current end date Aug 2041 I would love the end date to be 2027 but will aim first for 2037.
1% target £4000 so far £20 paid0 -
Hi hollysnan, I too have a grandaughter called Holly
and have a slight disability.Nowadays if its above my shoulders, or below my knees then I bribe one of my 7 grandchildren with HM cake to dust for me
when I had my sitting room redecorated last year I got rid of lots of 'dust catchers like photo's,ornaments etc, mainly because of the painting and decorating and I had to bag and move them upstairs out of the way of the workman.after a month I realised I hadn't missed them so the photos were put away in a drawer upstairs and the frames given to a CS.
Think minimal as much as possible,or asmy late OH used to say 'Think caravan' when you are limited for space anyway
Life ,especially when you are less mobile than you once were is so much easier to manage if you are not forever dusting and tidying.
I minimised my ironing today, mended a favourite cardi that had a loose button and I used up some red peppers in an omelette for lunch so I'm now feeling at one with the world0 -
Hiya All
Staying with a different friend in Mk at moment - it is our writer's circle on Wednesday night and am much looking forward to it. My current host is very into books and food - like me so we get along really well! It is so kind of them to have me to stay :A
Thanks for all the advice about washing machines - now I wont need to get that degree in 'Washingmachineology' as dND puts it :rotfl:
Will now look for the half wash feature and measure CAREFULY the space available for one!!
Welcome hollysnan - I read for ages before joining in and taking action too - but it is never too late to start. As you can see on here we all have different areas of expertise and each of us contributes something. It is such a friendly thread!
Making do - hummmmmmmmcant really claim owt here as am being very well fed in a clean and tidy house by dear friend at mo!!
Mending - hummmmmmmmcant say I ve done any of that either
Minimising - ha now here I can make a claim!!! Firstly staying with my friend is good for me as we are both watching our weight. so hopefully I will minimise something of me! Secondly I am helping them use stuff up. Thirdly am minimising my stashes of stuff left with friends across MK (at least I am minimising for them bytaking it home with me!!! So have already loaded the car with craft stuff - next comes some house plants and on Thursday some of my outdoor plants too!
May have to have a second run at the outdoor plants though!! 25 pots of plants will not all fit in my car!

I have been looking at all the dust collectors in the sitting room so I am going to put most of them in a box in the spare room. OH and I will hoover and dust all surfaces and see how it looks. It was only painted and new carpet 9months ago.So thats a job over the next few days I work very slowly.0 -
Good morning everyone and welcome to all the newcomers.
I've been minimising the washing, as we only came back from our hols on Saturday - Norway is a beautiful place and I recommend it. It is an expensive place though, and thankfully, apart from knitwear, reindeer boots, salmon and plastic trolls, there was not much to buy. So no gifts for DDs.
Whilst I was away I told DD1 to remember to water my tomatoes, seems she remembered when sat out in the garden when it was really hot. "It was so hot I sat in the garden with some ice cream and looked at the greenhouse and thought, Mmm mum's tomato plants look a bit funny." They look ok, some of the leaves look a bit dry but toms look fine (for now).
Made do with YS pork fillets from the freezerwith parmesan and parsley with new potatoes last night. I used up bits of parmesan cheese I had and mixed with chopped parsley from the garden. Dipped pork into beaten egg then the parsley/parmesan mix and grilled - Delish.
Mending - tried mending the pocket lining in one of OH's waterproof jackets and snapped the needle in the sewing machine, so that is a trip out to get some more!Books - the original virtual reality.

Welcome to the thread hollysnan
Hope everyone is doing well, haven't been up to much MMMing the last week or so. Work has been incredibly busy but had an inspection the last two days which went well so hopefully now it's over things will calm down a bit.
Been eating from the stores as haven't had the time to go shopping, still got lots in the cupboard but not really anything that will go together to make a proper meal so plan to visit the supermarket tomorrow.
Got a couple of things to mend - buttons that have fallen off so plan to do that tomorrow also, have a day off work so got lots of little things I want to get done.Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.8.25 - £106,362.86
Mortgage overpayment savings - £3.33/£50

Welcome to the thead hollysnan
a make
A fish to take on holiday with me. Reading the carnival programme I think they are planning a yarn bomb style decoration of an area of the sea front and are asking for fish made from anything as long as they are no longer than 12 inches. I decorated mine with ribbons and beads. Can't wait to see what the area they decorate looks like.
I've minimised 4 paperback books, I read them while away so they were left in CSs in the area.
Also washing a load of martial arts suits from when we used to run a club they are going to be donated to the CS at the weekend if I get them all clean and dry in time.
Mending a pair of DHs work trousers need the zip putting in correctly.
Hope everyone is alright sorry I've not posted for a while, I'm playing catch up and trying to get ready for family holidaySPC~12 ot 124

Evening all
I have had lovely evening for no monetary outlay as I went to my writing group tonight and someone else provided the drinks and nibbles. So interesting to get other people's take on the same work!! they see different things to me so the author gets useful comment from everyone.
Making do:nope - being v well fed by my friend and today treated them to fab lunch out (as a thank you for having me to stay) - if you are near Milton Keynes try the Chester Arms at Chichley - we had a large tasting plate, 3 pints of beer, 2 puddings, and coffee for £38 which I consider a bargain - considering that the quality of such HM foods was very high
Mendingnope nowt here to mend
Minimisingnope - not even me after what I have eaten today!! (Crisps and biscuits at my writing group + massive lunch)
So what, you may well say, is she doing on this thread?????
Well, am driving back home to Cornwall tomorrow and then it is back to frugality to save monies for the next time I come up here. Will definitely need your support then :A:A
Will be aiming to get back to my £10 per week food/cleaning products spend; need no more clothes; need no more jewelry; DEFO no more ornaments!!
Also aiming for 5/7 NSDs and £10 only in the week's Happy Stash (money for treats and outings.)
More later in the week folks

Well my sitting room is starting to look very neat with lots of the dust collectors either packed up or in a bag for the CS. I am really liking the miminal look in the room so will take a break for a few days then start in our bedroom.
Mending, OH has a cardigan that he loves hes had it for years and the elbows were going. So I bought 2 very soft leather patches and sewed them on. Got him to try it on and he loves it so that should last a few more years.0 -
Sounds like you've had a thoroughly good time Lyn and I'm glad to hear it. Safe journey home.
Going to minimise a bag of old coat hangers into the recycling this morning.
Mend Dh work trousers, and make do with something from the freezer
Have a good day everyoneSPC~12 ot 124
