Thanking OPs if you win a comp

What do you do?
I stopped posting my wins in IWIWIW ages ago for a couple of reasons, and took to PM'ing my thanks to OPs instead. Now I'm wondering if I should even be doing that - I don't want to get up their noses, whilst it's probably nice to know that someone won from your post, if you're one of the main comp posters, you could spend ages reading / replying to PMs on a daily basis.

Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!

I think its nice to publicly post a thank you to the OP, youve cleared your conscious and said thank you and if the OP spots it, great! But then again, its likely the OP might not see the post but again, youve cleared your conscious and said thank you.0

I like reading the IWIWIW posts, especially if it's a prize I would have liked to win. It makes me feel better that 'one of us' won.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Competition Time, Site Feedback and Marriage, Relationships and Families boards. Yes, that's it, it feels impolite not to do anything other than the initial thanks - maybe I'm overthinking things, there are many users on here that never thank, post or contribute at all.
If only all people shared that view Misslayed.TOP MONEYSAVING TIP

I do what you do i.e. PM the OP and generally don't post in IWIWIW any more (I think I just got out of the habit as the wins started slowing down)
To be honest though, I haven't won anything for ages, so it's academic for me !Best win ever: Trip to the Galapagos Islands in 20100 -
It's nice to hear from winners of one of "your" comps, whether it is in IWIWIW or by PM. It can also provide regular posters with useful information.
If it's a comp where hundreds or thousands win, then don't bother sending a PM as the OP will get swamped. An extreme example is THIS where 7 million people won prizes! It would be nice to hear from somebody who won the £3000 gift card, but not the 5 million audio book winners!0 -

hi, i also pm the op to thank if I've won from a comp
they've posted & have always found a lovely reply from them
& up to now never had a negative response,
they always seem genuinely pleased for the pm,
as for receiving pm's from peeps/members on here that
have won from comps I've posted i generally
get quite a few pm's each week & love receiving them :j
tbh i get a lovely feeling of satisfaction that I've
helped & a warm glow that someone has won from them :j
& i don't mind how many i receive each one is very
welcome
sometimes imho not everyone has the time to check
through the IWIW's as the board moves quite quickly
so a pm is more than welcomeplease be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -
Sorry to hear that Liz, I'm the opposite - I've been such a jammy sod in 2015 that it's almost embarrassing.
I thanked Katie by pm at the beginning of Dec for a win, and now owe her 4 more, so that's what prompted this thread - when do thanks become a nuisance lol.TOP MONEYSAVING TIP

why do you not post in IWIW?
Just curious.0 -
By PMing them rather than thanking them on the appropriate thread then others don't get to appreciate them or even realize how much they contribute.
I think it's nice to show appreciation publicly rather than secretly . Let people know how great they are.....and who knows you might inspire others to post comps tooI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

If it's a prize where there are hundreds of winners, I tend to add my thanks to a thread where everyone else is adding that they won.
Otherwise I actually do both, PM to the OP and post in IWIWIW
1. I like to thank the OP and I know if I PM them that they will see my thanks which otherwise not get spotted by them in IWIWIW (I actually hadn't considered your valid point that they might actually get bombarded with PMs)
2. I like to share my wins in IWIWIW as personally I like to scan through to see what other people win, it gives me momentum when I'm having a dry spell and I like to see other compers winning something nice.
3. Although I don't post many comps, it is nice to receive thanks either privately or publicly, I just think we're generally an appreciative bunch of folks.2024 £72, 2023 £2230, 2022 £300, 2021 £1800, 2015 £3790, 2014 £44600
