Not Buying It- A Consumer Holiday 2016

Bought a bright pink top and it all went surprisingly well on Tuesday morning ,but being my brother, and like me an ex-taxi driver he really was late for his own funeral by about 10 minutes.Lovely service and his granddaughter had done an amazing powerpoint of his life over the past 75 years complete with photos which was lovely.
Back home again after my travels and just getting over the 1000 miles plus trip in the car. There will be another service in London later this month as his wishes were for his ashes to be interred with our late Mum in London.
Life will slowly get back to normality again I guess, just seems strange at the moment that I can't just pick up the phone and talk to him.
Hope everyone is OK and keeping on the straight and narrow.
Cheers chums JackieO xx0 -
Hiya
As those on MM&M know I am currently homeless - my stuff is all in storage while the second house I was trying to sell goes through with a new buyer - my own house meanwhile sold and so I have moved out! Am currently staying with a friend (bless her!)
Anyway - this leaves me with no fridge or freezer or pantry to stock up on and after a year + on NBI the habit of buying stuff has truely gone. this was proven to me today as I was out and about, needed the loo and the nearest was in a Waitrose. Now, having used their facilities, I felt it only polite to buy something. No foodstuffs needed. Had already bought my friend flowers and biscuits. Magazines too expensive and full of rubbish. cups plates bowls?? dont need em! absolutely nothing I needed to buy (sorry Waitrose! But I have bought lots from you over the years !) :rotfl:

Lyn it becomes ingrained in you after awhile doesn't it I hope you soon find a place to call your own soon and will no doubt be back on the NBI
I have only actually shopped once this month for food and have more than enough to keep me going this month I have my friend coming tomorrow for lunch and have dug some of the beautiful ham I froze out of the freezer that I brought home from my spring holiday in April I had some last week and it was gorgeous so its ham salad and new potato's for lunch tomorrow with fresh fruit for pud:)

Evening folks
Lyn, have you already found a new place?
I think "shopping cravings" indeed get better with time and you instantly start to ask yourself the right questions and make the right decisions. I managed to go on a city trip with only spending the grand total of 19£ on shopping... That would have been unheard off a couple of years back. But I don't expect to do equally good on my upcoming trip to Lisbon with two friends...
I decided to have a few bigger spends or rather investments. I bought prescription sunglasses which were pretty expensive but I was just so tired of looking silly wearing sunglasses over my regular glasses and there is no way I can wear contacts at the moment as my eyes are playing up a lot. I could probably have gotten them much cheaper somewhere else but decided to get it from an indipendant optician as they are doin such a great job there.
Did some make do and mend on Saturday which took 5 minutes and a bit of tread and gave me a pretty dress... I bought this vintage style light blue dress with white dotts which fitted prefectly in the shop but started slipping around when I wore it for a couple of hours. So it didn't got much love these last two years since I got it, but on Saturday I decided that I will give myself one weekend to either decided that I can live with the way it fits or find a way to deal with the neckline. It took me a couple of minutes to establish that all I have to do is gather the neckline a bit, sat down and did the job and the dress is now fitting lovely and has an even more vintage touch to it.
So, I'm off to bed, had a rubbish night last night, first had problems going to sleep, fell asleep somewhat after midnight and was wide awake by one in the morning again as I suddenly felt very sick and cold... I think I could do with some more sleep this night...
Have a nice evening everyone!Fashion on the Ration 2022: 5/66 coupons used: yarn for summer top 5 /

Hiya All
Riccarda - I did have a house but what with being let down they have put it back on the marketCant say I blame them - I must come over as really unreliable as we had to postpone once and then my buyer pulled out!!
House II is gettin surveyed tomorrow so am hoping all goes well!
Today helped my friend to take a load of stuff she couldn't lift to the charity shop and the tip. She then went a pottering round the charity shops - I did reminder that the objective was to declutter and downsize!! Not to buy more. Where we dumped stuff off is a classy area with very good second hand shops - am proud to say that all though I could see how lovely some of the stuff was I still didnt buy it!! I didnt particularity want to either! :T
Thanks to you all on here for changing my attitude to such things - lawks but it makes life easier!!
Am resolved, having just turned out my house, that I am never gonna get in such a cluttered state again - when I finally find my new place! (hopefully the orginal place will still be available!)
If you like I think this is kinda NBI PHASE II ????????????? :rotfl:Aim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j

Isn't it great when you finally realise that a lot of what we have is just that ,'clutter' I remember when I had some chap decorating my sitting room I had to move all the ornaments and bits of 'stuff' out of the room so he could paint and paper Everything went into carrier bags and were put upstairs for 'safety' Once it was all done and looking splendid I decided the majority of 'stuff' I had lived without for a fortnight so I could probably live without for longer. After a month, virtually nothing had returned back downstairs, so I had a massive declutter to the CS Photo's I kept, but lots of the frames were got rid of. I really don't need umpteen photos and pictures on the wall to remind me of my children ,grandchildren etc, I see them almost daily anyway:)
So my sitting room is almost minimalist for pictures now ,less dust to collect and removebonus, less 'clutter' another bonus as my sitting room is fairly small anyway.
I had got rid of as much as I could and the world hadn't stopped turning.
So you go for it Lyn and when you get your new home just put in there what you really can't discard and the rest is just junk.
I kept thinking when I shuffle off, my children will have to get rid of quite a lot of stuff that they definitely wouldn't want or give houseroom to so I have done them a favour (not that I am considering shuffling off any time soon:):))
I have one room in my house which is mine for my 'stuff' its my small back bedroom (my study) which has all my paperwork and bits of my life in So they will only have one room to sort when the time comes.Even that isn't really that full its mostly books and hobby stuff crafts etc.I have my ancient desktop computer in there which I use in the morning to check emails etc and all the bits of stuff we all collect over time photos' etc but they are all quite manageable .
When I downsized in 1995 to this tiny house we had moved from a very much larger property so I HAD to get rid of an awful lot of stuff, but its surprising how sometimes it creeps back inI am trying to declutter my china cupboards in the kitchen at the moment CS are welcome to it as I don't need most of it anyway I took a large bag of glasses to there last week I really didn't need them anymore and my glass cupboard is looking a lot better for it as well
:):)
There is something so satisfying making a bit more room in the cupboards and getting shot of things that really aren't needed or used anymore I find

Morning
Todays pleasures:
1. The sky is blue this morning, and the new leaves on the trees are myriad shapes and shades of green. The world looks very bright and fresh.
2. The dog has a new friend to romp with on the field near the canal bank. An English Mastiff. He comes up to its knee, and they look so comical running around each other.
3. A heron was fishing on the opposite canal bank earlier this morning, and didn't fly as we walked past.
4. Just sitting here, enjoying my home and thinking how very lucky I am to be here.
5. The quiet hours very early in e morning when I can't sleep because but can sit and watch the sun rise. It's so peaceful and tranquil.0 -
Hi, Hope everyone's doing ok.
Lynplatinum: Good luck and hope you get sorted soon with the house situation and that things sort themselves out.
RicardaRacoon: Hope you are not coming down with something and you managed to get some more sleep.
May started off quite expensive, the winter fuel bills arrived and we also had a vet bill to sort out. Things have settled back down after having a bit of a spend on the house amongst other things and I've since gone right off shopping again. It doesn't really bring satisfaction apart from a temporary fix which wears off all too quickly, I am back to have the odd treat and saving spare cash for emergencies and days/weekends away which are coming up later in the summer.
I have memories from experiences that last for years, have no fond memories of any shopping spree.0 -
