Not Buying It- A Consumer Holiday 2016

The last few weeks have been a bit of a blur, spent quite a lot of time with my sis who is having baby number 2 but has child no. 1 who has been poorly so being trying to help out with organising stuff, keeping their spirits up and whatnot.
Finally plumped for a new boardgame that arrived last week, which has been perfect timing, because with the wet weather we've had this weekend, it has been just the ticket for keeping us entertained for the last 2 nights.
Considered purchases have (mostly) been the order of the day/ month, with a new frying pan bought (my old one was so poor that I couldn't even successfully fry an egg in it!) and a new cafetiere, which unfortunately was beyond the point of purchasing spares, as every part other than the plastic frame would have needed to be replaced. **Sheepishly keeps quiet about the 4 films bought from CEX last week**
Local garden centre today to pick up a gift voucher for Dad's birthday and decent garden tools requested by MIL next time we go over. Very impressed with myself that I didn't buy anything from the farmshop there, even though they had dark chocolate ginger biscuits. :AAugust 2016 GC £249.70/£150

Some days, I must admit that the consumer holiday hasn't felt like a holiday, more like a chore, and that's down to me not choosing a positive mindset. But, I'm feeling reinvigorated today! :j
This sunny weather has been making me thirsty, and rather than reaching for the squash, I've automatically been going for a glass of (tap) water. Fewer hot drinks needed to the kettle is being boiled less too.
This Sat will be a ladies film night and I am super impressed with a YS 2kg bag of potatoes for 10p I picked up when I popped into the shop for some milk, which will be perfect for homemade wedges with the film
I've not had my usual garden centre splurge (you know, the one where you buy way too many flowers for your garden without thinking what will go where and how many hours it will take to plant them). I have 2 lillies acquired from my dad (he always passes me cuttings and spare plants), 2 roses, a little shrub with orange flowers and, my favourite, a delicate purple flowered geranium, all warmed by this recent bout of sun. I may buy some additions, but if I do, I'm going to think about what will return year after year.
So thats drinking more water that makes me feel like I have more energy, a great night in with good friends to look forward to, and some relaxing time creating a beautiful garden sanctuary to enjoy through the summer... Now that's sounding much more like a holiday to me :TAugust 2016 GC £249.70/£150

Been pretty good at not spending it ,but am going to buy a bright top tomorrow, as I am off to France for my brothers funeral and he left specific instructions that folk were to dress up in bright things and be happy.I shall meet him halfway and wear black trousers that I already have, but a bright top to respect his wishes

My condolences JackieO. A word of warning if you are travelling on Sunday, it's a holiday here (VE Day) and that might be be a bit of a disruption as well as having more traffic on the road.Aiming for a Champagne Lifestyle on a Lemonade Budget

Evening everyone
Jackie, sorry to hear about your loss! Stay save travelling to France!
Hope everyone else is doing fine!
I've been away for four days with my sister. City trip with her camper van, the price for the campsite and petrol to drive to and from came ways cheaper than a hotel and train ticket and we had a fab time and it is lovely to have your own little home with you, including your favourite pillow (I hate pillows in hotels as they are never as comfortable as my own). Did a little bit of shopping too, but all I bought were two books and some cupcake liners... I've decluttered a lot in the last few weeks, so the thought of just buying stuff felt so wrong and I kept my shopping very limited and my sister did equally well.
Besides I bought some more books, 5 (including the ones from my trip) in about two weeks... Hope to get back into reading mood... Plus have bought a pair of jeans today as one of the two pairs I have is beyond repair (trust me, I did tried to mend it but it was no use anymore...) and I needed a new one. Strangely the brand I wear for years changed something with the sizes, while short used to be perfect for my short legs it is now about 4 inches too long... I have no idea how tall they expect short people to be, I'm 5.4 and apparently too short for short....
have a nice evening everyone! I will now do some manicure, my hands and nails are in a dreadful state...Fashion on the Ration 2022: 5/66 coupons used: yarn for summer top 5 /
