ive spent another day waiting for a meter accuracy test that didnt happen[2nd failed appointment in 2 wks] .i requested it because my gas bills are high even though ive got a new condensing combi system. the person tonight tried to tell me that my new system is unlikely to be more effecient than my 30 yr old system that you had to have on full pelt just to get hot water! now ive got 2 £20 payments for failed appointments on the way whoopee ive had to take 2 days off work at more than £40 each day !

Forget the bills, what is you actual consumption in kWh? That is the only way that you can make an old/new comparison. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

the point being i requested a meter check and it still has not happened, now i m being told they never recieved the letter to auth the check even though the person i spoke to last time asked me to check the serial number because it did not look right.[may be being charged for wrong meter!] i am willing to accept my bill as accurate as long as i get the meter check but npower seem to be trying to delay/postpone this from happening.     :mad:0

I assume that you appreciate that you pay for the meter test if your meter is found to be OK?
You don't say when you had your new boiler fitted. In summer the difference will not be marked as there is no heating - even if the temperature of your water is set a few degrees hotter that will mask any savings.
However what I can't understand is why you feel a faulty gas meter could be the cause of the lack of improvement in your boiler's performance.
Even if the meter was faulty and is reading high by, say, 50%, if your new system is, say, 20% more efficient then it should still use 20% less gas than the old system.
That said gas meters very rarely go faulty, and if they do, they normally read low. In essence all they are is a vane that is turned by the incoming gas.0 -
Did you have a new boiler or a complete new CH system? The reason I ask is because since moving from my old rented larger house with an old style hot water tank / radiator heating system to a house with cavity wall insolation, a foot of loft insolation & an almost brand new baxi combi boiler my fuel bills have doubled. I put this down to three things. 1. The open plan kitchen diner with exposed staircase. 2. The fact that we have no suitable place to install a cat flap so have to leave a window open (when we are in) so the cats can
come & go as they please. 3. & this is the clincher, the complete inadequacy of the rest of the heating system to transfer the heat the boiler generates. The previous owners did not replace the complete system so we have; Old radiators upstairs with broken valves & thermostats so the heat upstairs is stifling & can not be adjusted. Two small radiators in the downstairs rooms, one of which heats the room better now that we have shifted the furniture around but the second (in the kitchen diner) is a tiny single skinned thing that is woefully inadequate. All in all the heat is not being distributed around the house in the way it should be therefore our fuel bills are higher. Just something to mull over anyway. HIH.0 -
I would be amazed if your meter is actually at fault. There is a lot of rot talked about these new condensing boilers regarding efficiency/cost to run etc. and if you are expecting to see a dramatic reduction in actual consumed kWh, you are likely to be disappointed. Please let us know if the meter is found to be faulty. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

yes i know about the charge for the test should the meter be ok,i had a condensing combi and full central heating system fitted 2 yrs ago. i dont expect miracles but i do expect my bills to show a reduction as my previous system had to be on at 25 degres to get hot water as the water only setting was broken! :eek:0

What do you mean by "showing a reduction"?
You are aware that gas prices are much higher now than they were 2 years ago, despite the recent reduction in price?0 -
I guess some of you work for npower ! yes i expect a reduction the old system was on all day the new one is on 4 hrs a day [because i now work] clearly i must be wrong but then i guess so is "which" try reading their latest issue and no thats not why im having my system checked.sorry i did not understand the rules here [sheep syndrome]      :mad:0

What a strange post.
You indicated that you were getting your meter checked, not your system.
Blaming the gas meter for poor system performance, is like blaming the speedometer of a car because it doesn't go any faster with a new engine.0 -
So I Said System Instead Of Boiler Big Deal ! Maybe Its Me I Requested A Service And Npower Are Failing To Deliver ! Is That Simple Enough For You !0
