Paraffin heaters
Comments

My flat is part of an old grade 2 listed building.
I can honestly say, in the time I've had it running, and this will be my second winter, condensation hasn' t been a problem. I was concerned when I purchased the heater that it might be, but that hasn't happened. I do run a small dehumidifier in my bedroom but have always done so in the 8yrs I've been here as its an old building. I havnt turned up the setting on it in any way , the environment is identical to my central heating . This is just my own experience before anyone else jumps in .0 -
Reasoning is supposition, my argument is factual, based upon my own experience.
Why would ANYONE therefore revert to supposition for argument.
I suggest you try one first, as I've already stated in my first post if you look back that the figures do not correlate with actual usage!
So really arguing the toss would be pointless, unless you had any experience with them.
Regards
No it is not, because you simply made an unbelievable claim, yet have failed to post any figures to support your assertions, despite several requests to do so. Your suggestion that a fuel costing 12p per kWh is actually costing you 1.5p per kWh simply does not add up.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I have shared my ACTUAL experience and hopefully this will help someone out there considering this sort of heating and will be happy to answer any sensible questions to the best of my ability.
This fire has saved me money, since I started using it. OK I have not factored the purchas price into it, nor would I, if I were to have installed a new central system of any kind ( my own choice).
As I have stated SEVERAL times the book figures do not add up and unless you would like very, very complicated figures I.e... Barometric pressure of air in flat / outside effects of combustion , fan speed blah blah, (simpified) this would not be of use to the average person.
Nor, would I invite people to reside with me to prove the point.
As a biophysicist, I would not presume to give Vetenary, mortgage, insurance or any other advice, except in exceptional circumstances where I may have had first hand knowledge as in this case.
I can only assume you are more knowledgeable than I and have offered thousands of posts; as you have, in your capacity of heating engineer having used these Yourself?
I would assume that like myself, you wouldn't pressume to give advice on a plethora of subjects you have limited knowledge on. As indeed anyone that could do this would be far to busy and in demand in there highly skilled work life to have the time!

One last point.
Haha! . At no point have I suggested or claimed paraffin is costing 1.5pkw, I suggest you re- read my post!!!
Paraffin costs the same whether used for one hour or ten. Simply switching the unit off more does not mean you average out the price for when it is not on!!
I suggest you find a new interest for 2016.
Happy new year and Regards.:T:rotfl:0 -
Doh. Your post states that your bills have been 'halved' using paraffin. Assuming the same amount of energy has been used to heat the property as you formerly used to heat with gas CH, you'd have to be buying it for 1.5p per kWh to achieve that. But in reality it costs 12p per kWh.
If you want credibility, post your figures-your annual kWh consumption on both fuels, and your actual annual cost on both fuels. You admit that the maths 'doesn't add up', but refuse to show us your maths. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Had two of these units prior to having oil CH installed.
They really do pump out some heat and distribute it well.
Cost of running, 3 years ago was much the same as electric heating.
Advantages: speed of space heat up, easily transportable.
Disadvantages: cost of running, noise of fan, availability of fuel and lost and lots of CONDENSATION.
We used to open windows when they were running, rather defeating the object of the exercise.
I seem to remember the timer only switches the unit on, will not switch them off again.0
