  • Thanks unholyangel, I will definitely wait until docs will know more about permanent damages, and take it from there.
If necessary, I will speak to my local cab.

Have you been seen by a consultant orthopaedic surgeon? A good one can do amazing things. I fractured my right arm in multiple places above and below the elbow joint, chipped off chunks of bone and had a total dislocation. The first doctor I saw wanted to repair the damage with pins and plates which would have left me severely disabled with the possibility of zero mobility in the joint and extensive scarring. I then saw a very highly regarded consultant who determined that he would first attempt manipulation - my arm was broken and reset 4 further times over a year. I have full mobility and only a 5% loss of extension. It's always worth asking for a second opinion.

My niece was paid compensation for an accident. Clear cut that it was not her fault, woman reversed into her without looking. She had shoulder, arm and knee injuries. She was paid out for loss of earnings too. It took 6 years for the claim to be paid. No decent claims company will settle a claim until the full extent of any injuries are known. Prepare yourself for a long wait.
  • Thanks for all the helpful answers, if I ever need to go through a lawyer, I will know what to look for. I have a consultation booked next week and another at the end of next month, pins have been mentioned at my last appointment though.
  • Hi all, just wanted to give you an update on my case.
I was off work for 8 weeks, and when I went back I struggled for a while, my workplace was very supportive though and I am still there, it turns out they need me after all and gave me a promotion, so there is that.
As I lost quite a fair amount of money, I decided to take advantage of my union membership, with free lawyer etc, and I started a claim. My workplace knows about it, and told me I was doing the right thing in claiming, as they had and admitted liability.
All of this in response to a few of the answers I did get above: do not assume everyone is in for a quick buck, most claims come from honest, hardworking people who would rather be fit and well.

My workplace is at fault, as they failed to maintain carpark facilities, hence me falling and fracturing arm in two different spots.

Reminds me of the old Tommy Cooper joke (slightly amended)
A man walked into the doctor's, he said 'I've broken my arm in several spots'.
The doctor said 'well don't go there any more'.
  • as my first language is not English, sometimes I fail to express myself properly.
I basically broke my arm in two places, according to the first two xrays. Then it turned out there were three fractures.
    Funnyish joke though!
