Is the name on my Council Tax Bill the same as the Electoral Roll?

I got married back in 2007. I changed my name on all my bank accounts, driving licence, passport, etc, but I don't remember changing it on the Electoral Roll. I need to renew my mortgage this month but before I do, I need to know if I'm on the electoral roll in my married or maiden name. Would whatever appears on my Council Tax bill be the same as on the Electoral Roll? I spoke to the lady at the bank we want to renew with and she said that my name needs to be the same as the Electoral Roll because if it's wrong then it'll decline the application and leave a footprint on our credit.

Are you staying with the same lender? If so, ignore the person in the bank. They have not got a clue. If you are switching lenders then I would be surprised if that would be an automatic decline. It would possibly affect the scoring or raise a question but nothing that can not be overcome.
Call the council and ask them who is registered or if you are.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Have you looked at you noddle credit report to see what that says? It's worth checking all your credit reports before applying :-)

They may not necessarily be the same names - as council tax and electoral administration are two different things. A landlord may pay the council tax but not be resident - so isn't on the electoral register. Similarly one person may be named on a council tax bill as the payer but there could be several adults resident as per the electoral roll.
I suggest you contact your local council's electoral registration/electoral services team and check the register at their office (some council libraries also keep them too). Alternatively do you not get polling cards at your home before elections each May (e.g. for the general election last May) and an annual registration form which confirms your name as per the register etc? Do you not recollect that name is on these documents/forms? Do you not vote and have to give your name at the polling station?0 -
We generally vote by post but I cannot recall whether it is in my married or maiden name. The thing is, everything else is in my married name. My tax code is in my married name, my driving licence, my passport, my payslips. Everything else is in my married name. I can't understand why it would make such an issue as surely they can tie both names to me?
I have a mobile phone contract, credit cards, loads of things. All of these are in my married name and I've never had a problem with applying for any of these things.0 -

Thanks for this. I googled the reviews on Noddle as I hadn't heard of them so decided to go through Experian instead. It does say that I'm on the Electoral register in my married name so now I just need to find my marriage certificate! I definitely need to be more organised!0 -
Are you just switching products with your current lender?I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Yes, but we want to borrow more money this time - I know it's not recommended to take it on your mortgage but we've looked at all other routes and this seems the best option. We have lots of equity in our house (about £200k) and we're only in our early 30s, and already 15 years through our mortgage. They have said they can't currently do it because of the whole maiden name/married name and have said I need to take my marriage certificate down to a local branch to get them to change my name. Do you know if it HAS to be my marriage certificate as I have absolutely no idea where it is! I've always known where it was up until this point! Can I not just take a bank statement, driving licence or passport?0
