  • Catching up on your diary after a busy few weeks for me. Sounds like you have been doing well and even managed to get an offer of your interest repaid - excellent news when you weren't expecting anything :T

I'm not sure I could be away from hubby for a whole month, a week I probably could manage because there are some things he does which are irritating :rotfl: After that, I think I would miss him.

I'm not even keen when he's working afters and I don't really get to see him!

I wish you luck at the gym and with your February frugality :)

  • Hey LMD!

He is going to be coming home at weekends, otherwise I don't think I'd cope with him being away at all! But it's good for his career, so I must encourage him!

my friend is starting at the gym tonight, so looking forward to having someone to hold me accountable for my workouts.

Not much else to report - no doubt I'll be on here a lot in the up coming month, as I think I shall be very lonely of an evening!

  • It's always good to have a mooch on here of an evening, I spend more time on here when hubby is on an afternoon shift to be honest.

Hope you have a good session at the gym

  • Been a little while since I last checked in. Hubs was underpaid so wasn't able to give me so much towards house keeping this month, but I am so close to clearing that first card I can taste it!

I've paid a total of £678.46 off my debts so far this year, total remaining is £4314.16 I'm making progress and it feels good!

Hubs was away last week and It was HORRIBLE, I really didn't enjoy myself, I was so down in the dumps, but we had a lovely weekend together, and I feel more positive about him being away this week.

Off to the gym tonight with my friend, I aim to go twice tomorrow and weds, then once on Thurs and once on Friday, and today am embarking on a 10k training plan.

I have also lost 7lbs so far this year - that progess is slower than I'd like, but I have certainly been slacking at the gym, and also eating hasn't been good. So need to get that under control too. Still, 7lbs is 7lbs only 25 left to go!

I have over spent a tad this month, I blame this on hubs being away so we've gone for dinner more than we'd normally do. He wants to quit drinking when he gets back, which I am excited about as I want to also, but I need us to be a 'team' to really be able to achieve this. But we will cross this bridge in 3 weeks time.

Not much else to report - still waiting to hear back from one PDL company re: my complaint. I'm hopeful I'll get an update soon.

I did springclean the boat last week and go through clothes etc. It feels more organised, which I like. I will do a tidy tonight before I go out and that should keep the place spick and span til Mr gets back.

I've been slacking in my OS ways terribly recently, and need to get back into it, so will be doing meal plans and prep. Hubs has to eat at restaurants each night so I think he's craving some good home cooked meals. I'll prep a shepherds pie, and then just need to find two other meals to make.

I'll post tomorrow, I think I'll start using this as an exercise log too.
  • My friend cancelled her membership before she even made it to the gym once! What a waste of money! Still, I went and ran 1.1 miles (small, but I'm starting from scratch again) 10k in 8 weeks is the plan.

Cleared out the fridge and had to throw so much stuff away due to my poor planning recently. Will need to put a stop to that. I will be meal planning again going forwards.

Out for dinner with my sister tonight -it's a mystery shop, so free wahoo. Then I need to get more coal for the fire as it was freezing when I woke up this morning! I need to run another mile as well today.

3 more sleeps til hubs is home for the weekend again. Really not a fan of him being away. Especially as he is particularly rubbish at staying in touch.
  • wahooo a little debt victory for me yesterday! My basic bank account is being upgraded to a normal one! This makes me proud!

Making an effort with the gym again really is fun. I have signed up to some classes for next week and looking forward to those.

Hubs is back today - only 2 weeks left of him being away! I just want life to get back to normal

Not much planned for this weekend, I have £20 clubcard voucher for a local pub, so I think we'll do lunch there. The rest of the weekend is really weather dependent.
  • Hello,
There should be a thread around here for boat dwellers. OH and I with kid in tow are hoping to make the leap to a narrow boat in about a year.

OH and I have had some hard times and we are still paying some off debts. We are tired of trying to keep up with the Joneses when we din't even like the Joneses to begin with. :rotfl:

I will be reading your diary and trying to gleam off wisdom from your journey to be debt-free.

  • Hi MoonJelly

I can certainly recommend boatlife, it's been the best decision we have ever made. Every day is like a holiday now! I can't wait for summer so we can get back out on the river.

We'll have owned ours for a year next month, and it's flown by.

    Hi, Boatdweller!
Thank you for the encouragement. Hubby, kid and I are seriously tired of the whole scenario of struggling to get into a huge mortgage to impress people who couldn't care less about us. We love simply things and I can spend hours knitting a jumper and watching the world go by. Also the funny thing is that I get motion-sick on everything (cars, planes, automobiles, buses, etc.) but I don't get sick on a boat regardless of weather (and I have been on a small boat being tossed about!) so I take it as a good omen :rotfl:

My only concern is paying for mooring as well as boat loan. I think we need residential mooring because our boy is still in primary and obviously we need to stay within reasonable distance from it.

Also, do you have trouble drying bedsheets and such? :o

  • We live in a marina at the moment, we're paying my dad off for the boat and paying for our mooring (only 4 years left until we are mortgage free!) As our boat is fairly small the costs aren't too bad, about what you'd pay to rent a flat in the area.

I have to admit, as my mum lives 5 mins from my office I do my washing at hers :rotfl: so it's easy to wash and tumble dry, but our marina also has a laundrette, and a few neighbours have their own washing machines - if you're plugged into shore power you're not really limited like you would be if you're cruising, so it's really just a floaty home.

I'm looking forward to getting back out on the river in a few months, but we have some engine jobs to fix before we can do that. You certainly learn a lot when you decide to throw caution to the wind and live on a boat!
