Expedia booking help required

I booked only my flight with Expedia (my first time ever) for early September 2016 on 07/12/2015 and I was perfectly happy with all the times and stopovers. The airline is Iberia, operated by British Airways. I am travelling to LAX and flying out from Glasgow to London and then onto LAX, same way returning a fortnight later. When I logged into my itinerary a couple of days later, I noticed that there was only one of the return flights displaying, because the airline had cancelled the flight from London to Glasgow (the departure, arriving home). It also said that Expedia would contact me via email or phone. I waited 48 hours and nothing happened. Annoyed and concerned, I had to contact them by email and received a reply 24 hours later requesting that I phone them. When I did and discussed the booking, I was given ONE option of a flight replacing the cancelled one. I took it as I thought this was a "take it or leave it" case, not wishing to miss out on the holiday (it seems that this IS the case on further clarification). When I received the confirmation email with the new booking, I was horrified to see that I had accepted something with a stopover time over almost 5 hours!!!!

I find this wholly unacceptable and feel I should have been given a range of flight options, not just one (afterwards I checked online and there are other BA and Iberia flights available with a much less stopover time). I would therefore have liked to change this portion only of the return so that I am not waiting so long at the airport for a flight home. Only trouble is, Expedia (or Iberian Airlines) want to charge me £100 (or £200 depending on to whom I speak) to do so. Since they changed the flight from the original booking I made, as advertised by Expedia, I don't see why they should charge me anything as the initial booking is no longer in its original state anyway. I am effectively changing a change. Well, at least, that is all I wish to do. It is not as if I want to cancel the whole itinerary, only the portion that had to be changed anyway because the flight had been cancelled. So I merely replacing the ONE choice I was given with another. I believe there should have been even a choice of two or three flight options, not just a single one in the first instance.

Will I just have to accept the booking they gave me regardless of whether I am happy or not?

    5 hours isn't actually that long a time, allows for delays and some time in the airport lounge and some shopping,

    I think it is if you have already travelled from LAX to London overnight. Waiting 5 hours to get a flight whose duration is less than an hour? Really?:eek:

    You'll be thankful if your flight has a couple of hours delay which is entirely possible

    When a flight is cancelled, the computer will auto rebook passengers on what they think is the best option. (that would be your 'one option') It is then down to you to accept or reject that flight. If you accept it, it is locked in and the fare rules apply for any further changes. If you reject it you can then request alternate options and see if the airline agree
    Given that you are not travelling till September your choices are to stick with what you agreed to, pay the change fee or wait and see if there are any future schedule changes that then allow you to change the flight again for free
    If you asked Expedia if there were any other alternatives and they said no, I would ask for the calls to be listened to and, based on being given incorrect information, request the change for free
    If you did not ask the question and accepted the flight then I suspect will be a lost cause trying to get Expedia to pick up the change fee charges
  • That's helpful, Caz, I think I will because I can't remember exactly what I said and/or asked. I have never really been in this situation before because I have always booked with a travel agent.
