Hi There
Sky currently advertise on the web, free Sky 3D movies and on demand in you have Sky Movies with the HD Pack or the Family Bundle. and they also state that
'The programmes you’ll be able to watch in 3D depend on your TV bundle. For example, if your TV bundle doesn't include Sky Movies or Sky Sports 1 and 2 in HD, you will not be able to view Sports or Movies within the on demand 3D collection.'
I have the sky family bundle with movies and sport, but they say I have to upgrade to a full HD package to qualify for sky 3D.
Are sky duty bound to by their web information to honour this and allow me sky 3D?
Thanks in advance
Dave

Hi Dave
You should be able to get discovery type 3D content, if there is any but, as you said above, if you don't have movies in HD you won't get the 3D movie content if you don't have sports in HD, you won't get 3d sports content. 3D relies on high definition picture. No HD no 3D. It's not Sky being difficult, it's technology unfortunately.0 -
Sky no longer broadcasts any live sport in 3D.
3D Films are still available, but only "On Demand" and from Sky Store.
Sky discontinued it's 3D channel some time back.
What material is made available to view is still dependent on the individual's level of subscription and has nothing to do with "technology"0 -
I suspect that there will be a fresh attempt to launch 3D when 4k UHD becomes mainstream as passive 3D technologies are much more user friendly than the current awful active headsets.0

When I negotiated my latest Sky deal, downgrading from Variety to Original, I mentiond that I may have upgraded, had they not replaced the 3D channel with a small number of limited on demand documentaries.
I was told there were no plans to increase this content, due to lack of interest, and suspect that this indifference may be the cause of the general decline in 3D offered. After all, it has novelty value, which soon wears off and doesn't suit everyone, as it gives them headaches or feels uncomfortable because of the need to wear glasses or because the sensation is disorienting.0 -

You can have movies but not in HD and without the HD there is no access to 3D movies on demand although SD movies are available. 3D is dependant on having HD, both subscription and technology. You can't have 3D on an older non HD sky + box.0 -

No. Its a dying fad, hence why Sky ditched the live channel. They're only trying to save face by keeping it available on demand and thats pay for. Less than 2% of users watched it. Hardly mainstream.0 -

...But do you not think that part of the problem was the cost/weight of the ridiculous active 3D glasses ? Some sets were sold without any.
And the fact that the few passive 3D sets were only able to show 3D in SD?
My s-i-l has a 3D capable set but only two (expensive) rechargeable sets of glasses -we had X Men 1st Class available in 3D at Xmas but couldn't watch it !
Be more interested if you could use the disposable passive type glasses as I would quite like to watch something like Jurassic World in 3D.:)0 -
Our tv has the lightweight passive glasses and also the facility to make 2D footage pseudo-3D, so I used the glasses to try out the latter (which was not impressive and meant only the glasses wearers could view), but found them annoying, being a prescription glasses wearer.
The viewing glasses fit easily over my prescriptions, but are somewhat loose fitting and could scratch my expensive lenses, so are not worth the risk.0 -

Passive 3D TVs stil and have alwaysl Displayed the picture in HD. The difference is each alternate screen is polarised to suit the polarisation of either left or right lens, same technology as used in the imax cinemas. where as active 3D glasses switch each Lens like a shutter to match the displayed picture.0
