KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

I have just started the kondo method and today I kondoed ALL of our bedroom drawers and and FINALLY moved our Singer sewing machine table from the living room to the second bedroom so that we now have a desk in the bedroom and space for a leather chair in the living room and can now open my living room cupboard!
It's made me feel very organised today and my bedroom no longer has piles of dried clothes to be put away.“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. TappingI'm finding my way back to sanity again... but I don't really know what I'm gonna do when I get there~ LifehouseWhat’s fur ye will make go by ye… but also what’s not fur ye, ye can jist scroll on by!0 -
Have kondo'd a whatchamcallit which came over from Mum's at New Year. Not good enough for a chazzer donation and have just taken it off freecycle as no interest and it's been up there for weeks. Dismantled it, put the fabric part thru with the washload done this afternoon and will add it to the ragbag when dry.
The other bits are sadly not recyclable and are in the landfill bin, having come to the end of their useful life.
Last week, I was round a pal's when I got my belated chrissy pressie. I untied the ribbon and left it with her for re-use (she's a crafter) and chucked the wrapping paper on her fire. The item itself is a lovely consumable in a lovely packaging, which I shall re-purpose after it's all used up. No long term net gain of Stuff on the premises.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hello all I am sorry but all the moving stories have made me laugh so much
I sold my house to a couple I sold a bed to in the furniture shop I used to work inBest sale I ever did
No agents fees all done and dusted in about 4 weeks.
They were a lovely couple first time buyers:) The day we were due to complete we couldnt get a removal firm so we stayed in the house for 2 days after they owned it but we did have to have all thier furniture in the house so the lounge was full of my packed stuff and also all thiers down the other end :rotfl:The bed I had sold them was also delivered so that was there too
But we couldnt complain as we didnt even own it
When we finally got to our new house it was full of the landlords stuff (he used to rent it out) I shoved it all in the celler and he didnt collect for 3 months :rotfl:But did get my own back by hiding the lovely garden table and chairs (which we still have) and the lovely singer sewing machine table (which we still have) and he didnt even know it was missing.
In the main bedroom we started ripping out the awful wardrobes and there was a bodged fitted shower in there :rotfl:in a double wardrobe you have never seen anything like it in your life it really was shocking but gave us a right laugh.
Funny we brought this house (after the one with the shower in the wardrobe) As somewhere I would never move from again and would be my forever till I die place. But my heart is not here and my head has already moved out :rotfl:So I guess its not then

Haha so did I! I had a lovely image of the dog wearing stripy pyjamas ...
Karmacat, re books - you're spot on. I got rid of a few that definitely represented someone I once thought I wanted to be, rather than who I am. It applies to lots of things actually- clothes, craft stuff, kitchen gadgets - once you recognise it, it's quite a relief.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -

DH has done his bedside table! 2 of the 3 drawers are now completely empty. It was just full of stuff we had to shove somewhere when we moved 2 years that hasn't been missed.
I've emptied out the airing cupboard, 90% of which is never touched. All table mats and teatowls are now in the same kitchen drawer.0 -
When we bought our last house in the UK completion was delayed till around 5pm instead of the expected 1pm. So the previous owners had plenty time to clean up once the van was loaded (they kept phoning up moaning they were sitting outside their new house but couldn't go in). In that case why were the carpets thick with inches of dust where the furniture had been and covered in kids odd socks . Compared to you lot I got off lightly though - till I opened the kitchen door and discovered they'd left the dog behind . Fortunately they called back a few hours later and collected it!A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

This is not my horror story, but of a girl I used to work with - she bought her first house back in about 1990/91. When she moved in she went up to the loft a couple of weeks later to put some things there - and found it all covered in thick black plastic, with some inflatable life size dolls in there, a chair, a box of magazines and a couple of boxes of other objects which I'll leave to your imagination.....:eek:I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200
