:) Good tip. Ours do, but they might have a word if they think you're taking the p. Off to workski now - Gordon Bennett but doesn't the necessity of earning a living get in the way of Real Life?!

My siblings and I took a huge Luton van to our council dump two days on the run, and they took a note of our registration number and my address, but it was fine. I checked on the website though, and ended up ringing beforehand too.

GQ - the possibilities you have! Great! I love the sitting on the hands decision about a CD player too - you never know, one might also come up on freegle, if you want to play a CD away from the computer.

My name is Karmacat and I have visited the big blue shed. Two items: my plate drainer in the kitchen is a cooling tray from there, its very simple, very solid, and cost £4. And my kitchen table (my *only* table) - two can sit at it comfortably, 3 if no one is moving around the kitchen, and there are two little leaves, each about a foot long, if needs must. Solid wood, not flatpack, and cost £90 ... tremendous value.

    Morning all

No real kondoing to report, but yesterday I had a phone call from a marketing company who wanted to know my shopping habits.

He was quite stunned when i said that i don't really go 'shopping' for furniture, floor coverings, clothes, makeup, household goods.

I think he must believe I live naked, in a completely empty house. :rotfl:

(on another note, the final question was the occupation of the chief income earner of the household, sent him off with a flea in his ear when i said "I will tell you my occupation, as you are asking me these questions - but i am not the chief income earner". :p)

Was having a wee internal convo; I could go up to X shop on the outskirts with the van and buy a boom-box (city centre has a paucity of this kind of retail). It'd be a good way of getting it. Hang on, I've been without a CD player for a couple of months +, haven't really noticed, can always play CDs on the pooter.

I shall sit on my wallet until I feel the urge. After all, reflexively replacing broken items, without questioning whether the replacement is really needed, is one of the many routes up Clutter Mountain, hey?

I only bought a microwave after pressure from family to buy a new one. I have a small kitchen and it takes up worktop space and I really only use it to cook jacket spuds and beetroot once in a blue moon - it spends weeks in the corner untouched. I'll not be taking it to the new house as OH has survived 5 years without one so the need just isn't there.

Cardi from yesterday is now in ragbag in OH's car with some things from his mother's house. The real clearing out there starts this coming weekend but we can only really manage a half day once a week so it'll take time.

Thank you for this, I will get a pair before winter and one for OH to try as well. I don't mind paying more if I'm going to get value from the purchase ie looking good and lots of use.

I know the discussion was a few weeks ago, but I also want to thank everyone else for their thoughts and experiences on clothes which last/don't last.
    .

I hope you like them as much as we do, and don't forget they repair them for free, which is even better!
£400,000 starting Jan 2020 current end date Aug 2041 I would love the end date to be 2027 but will aim first for 2037.
    1% target £4000 so far £20 paid

My name is Polly and I have no shame :rotfl: I furnished my house post-divorce from the big blue-and-yellow shed (almost all my furniture is inherited but I bought a sofa, bed, crockery and bedding etc). I'm still using the crockery 20 years later. I have owned many Billy bookcases. And the kitchen in my last house came from there, fantastic quality and if I ever fit another new kitchen I'll definitely look there.

On the other hand - the bookcases gradually began to sag, and I'm slowly replacing with solid wood from charity shops and the like. They do have some great storage stuff, but as said above, if you get rid of the clutter you don't need the storage.

Round here not only can you not take a van to the tip, you can't take any building materials- even if you've just been doing some DIY work at home. Tiles, plasterboard and any building materials can only be taken to one refuse site, quite a way away.

Polly - some old plasterboard contains asbestos so needs to be specially disposed of. Round here they charge you for any DIY rubble - and our council wonder why we have a fly tipping problem - doh!
How come I am so ridiculously pleased with using up the remainder of two cotton reels? Probably because it gives a little more space in my thread box, but come on! At least I have finished the cushion covers now ;)

:) I know what you mean, silvasava, I have some spools of thread with very little on them and I will be pleased as punch when I am finally able to use them up completely.

Had a sponteous bit of kondo-ing yestereve when a small bowl leapt from my hand and hit the floor. Blimey, I go for years without having a smashing time then destroy four pieces of crockery in as many weeks.

Not upset, it's one of three matching bowls (matching each other, not matching anythng else I own) which I got from a chazzer last year. One large, two small, one of the smaller ones broke. Isn't it funny how the amount of sherds seem to be far greater than the original intact item could possibly account for? :rotfl:

Have been doing little bits on the WIP rug, as that's in the way, once it's finished, I can get it down on the floor and start another one, a smaller canvas this time. I'm just a happy hooker, lol.

Folks have decided don't need me to do a dump run so will drive to the hometown, have a cuppa and a chat and drive back with the bike and the compost then run some errands around town. I see fenceposts in my near future, many fenceposts.

Keep up the good work, lovely peeps. GQx
