Hope you all have a wonderful festive time, whatever you're up to. 2 of our guests have been struck down with a D&V bug so are staying away. My parents are planning on visiting but it all depends on the weather (blowing a hoolie currently) and dads health (dreadful IBS keeps him housebound some days). Our girls are still tucked up in their pits but DH and I are up, breakfasted and on a second cuppa, how times have changed. When DD's were small, 3am onwards was a battle of wills. Now that they're all grown up we get the pleasure of their adult company but the silliness of doing the traditional kiddy things that thy love.

    Merry Christmas to all :D

All very un-festive here :rotfl:But a lovely time had in the days leading up to the big day. Been out with friends and family and a great laugh /time had by all.

Stuck to my guns of no gifts given. I cant tell you how nice it is not to have to unwrap carp and then not know what to do with it.

Nobodies had to think what to get us and waste their time and money this year.
But we have all treated ourselves to what we wanted with the money we have saved so all good.

Friends coming over for breakfast then will go for a nice walk and later on dinner at another friends house.

Will be braving the North Sea on Boxing day for the charity swim which is always great fun but always a tad cold :rotfl:

On New Years Day will be handing out fliers regarding missing since Sept RAF service man Corrie mckeague. As we have over 10,000 visitors in town for the fireworks display. As they have no leads on this case at all :( Somebody knows or must have seen something so am going to help in a very small way.

Have a lovely Christmas everyone and I so enjoy reading everyones journey into KM and beyond :D and feel I am with you all every step of the way :)

Debt free and Mortgage free thank you to all for your encouragement and advice

  • Oooh, GQ, I share your pain re the forgotten Branstons!

Happy Christmas, Kondo friends. I did a wee bit of kitchen kondoing last night. I downsized to a small house nearly 5 years ago, and reduced crockery a lot then. However, those of us who have fatigue issues (and no space for a dishwasher) may be familiar with Unwashed Dishes Syndrome.... extreme fatigue can particularly hit on the evenings of my working days, and when it's bad, I have enough energy for cooking but not washing up, and thus I end up facing a sink of dirty dishes at the start of the weekend.

So I went to B&M yesterday, a great place to ask for empty cardboard boxes. I found one that's pefect - square and slightly wider than my dinner plates. I've kept out 1 of everything - a cereal bowl, pasta bowl, side plate, dinner plate. The cutlery got the same treatment. The box is not taking up much room at all in my one storage cupboard, and is easily accessible should I need spares for visitors.

Let's see how this works! If it does, that's a really practical Christmas present to myself!

Merry Christmas all. I have found that a KMed house stays that way and makes life much easier . Any mess eg wrapping paper is so much easier to sort and recycle. Remember to take the tape off the paper before it goes in the recycle bin. :D
Hope you all got something nice for |Christmas. Mine is peace and quiet and some carols on the TV.
  • Merry Christmas everyone!

I haven't been on a for most of December, so hugs everyone.

Will catch up on thread soon.

    SIL xx
  • Happy Christmas all!:A

I'm listening to the music on Songs of Praise. I'm not religious at all, but like the music.:)

I did some light kondoing last night in between watching the TV and drinking wine.:T

Nadolig Llawen (as I am in Wales)

Snatching a few moments while the kids get ready. OH has gone up to where the inlaws are staying to start dinner off.

Am very pleased with my stash. Luxury smellies and chocs, a guide book to Barcelona (where OH and I are going in February) a couple of CDs and s "voucher" to buy a wanted leather jacket in the sales. DD bought me the gift of a meal for a family in Yemen (via oxfam) and OH a pile of manure (very much not a sh*t present :rotfl:). Really happy with those.

A lovely walk up a not quite a mountain last night followed by my first carol service in yonks. The vicar did a comedy turn and it was lovely to sing the carols with gusto (whoever he is ;)).

    Have a wonderful day all
I wanna be in the room where it happens

We had a lovely christmas! Up early to get to the morning service, then found out at the door that there was no morning service :rotfl: Slightly more elaborate lunch (multipack of bake-your-own rolls, 4 different types), and because dds usually lunch at school and weekend lunch times are 'fend for yourselves', just sitting together at a nicely laid table was a treat. Dinner was wraps, because we need to empty the fridge begore going to my parents' for a week tomorrow.

The church play/musical went very well; dd1 spoke loudly and clearly, I remembered my lines, and dd2 danced a solo, completely improvised ballet for five minutes. She didn't want to, but the person sitting next to her gave her a nudge and she just hopped on stage; she's only five. Cue one very proud mummy who couldn't burst too visibly, because pretty much centre stage herself at the time. And then dd2 refused to be one of the sheep, which she had rehearsed for :)

In the time saved by no-morning-service I did a load of laundry, the girls tidied their toys, and in the afternoon dh gave the house a thorough clean (however much we would have loved him to join us, he didn't want to come to church).

  • Sorry I'm late to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. Had a busy but lovely couple of days with friends and off to visit rellie in hospital this afternoon plus drop off a food parcel to another.

Was very organised this year and all presents were delivered on time. Gave mainly consumables and received some lovely things too - all useful and sparking joy so very happy. My presents from OH were all things that were needed, second hand and he didn't pay a bean for them so win win win!

Wee Midgie, I regularly experience fatigue related Unwashed Dishes Syndrome. Sometimes it can take days to catch up doing a draining rack full at a time.

Mavvy, brrrr to Boxing Day North Sea Swim. Hope it's sunny where you are.

Agree with all the comments about how much easier it is to keep a Kondoed home tidy. Can't wait to get the final room done in the next few weeks.

    :) Afternoon all.

I bring tidings of great joy from the parental homestead where yours truly is in very good form and the toast of the household.

I have ........... drumroll, fanfare of trumpets, throwing open of the gates to the city and the strewing of my path with rose petals ......... FOUND THE WINDOW KEY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mum hugged me with a tear in her eye, saying how I'd really made her Christmas, Dad looked quizzically and said you found it where?! and even the cats looked [STRIKE]bemused[/STRIKE] impressed.

The backstory to this is the front window into my parents' sitting-room. It is that uPVC double-glazing and this particular window is the largest span possible as a single unit. The sill is low (about 2.5 ft above ground) and this mahoosive window can open inwards like the page of a book. Which enabled very large things to be posted through from the front garden with ease; furniture, rolls of flooring, small elephants.*

Or so it used to be. The Key (there was only ever one) went astray many years ago and the window has only been openable on its tilt function. There was much struggling in late October when the old reclining armchair (which had entered via the window years before) had to exit and the new-from-Nan's had to enter. Much difficulty with getting both around the various doors and into the room, with the infuriating knowledge that the window could have resolved the problem with ease, but for the loss of The Key.

Sooo, today after lunch, I decided to sort out the hell-hole of sewing supplies in a large plastic crate beside th sofa. The contents had been sorted out by me years before, into labelled tubs. Plastics give way over time, plus muddles had happened. I re-sorted happily, plus some stuff was able to exit.

There was one marg tub labelled sock wool. This was leftover bits of sock wool to mend hand-knitted socks. The rest of the sock wool was in a container a few feet away. So, I try to consolidate the two, find the target container full but clearly harbouring non-wool among the wool, so I turn it out on the hearth-rug to rootle through, sort and re-home things correctly.

:j:j:j And, among the detritus was what, to my delighted eye, appeared to be a key for uPVC double-glazing. I advanced on the window with a hand that fairly trembled. Cinderella's prince did not proffer the crystal slipper with more awe than me and The Key.

:D And it was the The Key. People were called from other parts of the house to see the window open wide, there were hugs and mucho happiness. The Key has now been labelled and put safely in the key cabinet and every few minutes, we still marvel over its recovery.

    * that last bit may be a slight exaggeration, btw.
