    Topher, that's inspirational! :T:T:T

I totally agree, it feels soooooo good to look at the neat, functional, joyous items, easily accessible and ready for use!

Sounds like a lovely day VJsMum - belated Happy Birthday

Tibawo, I feel your pain. I hope things work out better tomorrow!

Today I helped a client with more filing, sorted out her computer printing problem (she'd managed to set it to 'save to pdf', I swapped the default back to 'print to printer' :)), cleaned, and got a Christmas card from her that said I was her rock :embarasse I can see that helping her get to grips with organising things is helping a lot :)
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.
  • Happy belated birthday VJsMum. Glad to read that you got joyous presents. :)

    :) Evening all.

Belated Happy Birthday, VJsMum, what a wonderful lot of presents. Love the coat rack - my Mum bought my Dad a new backyard fence for their golden wedding. Might seem a bit mad but it works for them.

Compare and contrast that fence with an expensive watch which Dad was bought as a retirement present. Relatively expensive, not a Rowleex but this darned jumped-up battery watch can't just have it's battery switched for a few squid. Oh dearie me no, even jewellers refuse to touch it and it has to be sent off to the maker at the cost of about £100. This will be the second time he's done this, which makes it an expensive gift, but this time is the last. And it's a watch which is worn about 5 times a year, max, for goodness sake.

And people wonder why I favour a £5 steel man's watch which I got 2nd hand......... :rotfl:

Topher, wonderful to hear your update, and I hear what you're saying about not wanting to pull too much about this side of Christmas. Depending on lifestyle (and the quality of telly programming ;)) you might find the kondo-urge striking in the doldrums between Boxing Day and New Year's Eve. It seems pretty common to a lot of folks - I often raid the parental loft about that time of year.

Funnily enough, I was reading in the archives of the becomingminimalist blog about reducing your clothes and someone had the bright idea in the comments thread there of keeping a box in your closet (they're Americans) and putting into it those outfits you try on and can't get on with, rather than hanging them back up/ putting them back in drawers and repeating the whole process on another day.

I thought that was a neat idea, keeping them segregated pending time to get them ready for donation, or whatever you intend for them.

Been to work and then did a chazzer run with a bag of Stuff which had been accumulating in the corner of the sitting-room, getting books and DVDs and Misc added to it as I finished with them.

Somehow, I'm feeling a bit end-of-term and having an urge to get things sorted out before going to spend Xmas week with the folks. Am reading through my pile of library books and eating up random bits of food to have the fridge empty before I go.

I was briefly in the very reasonably-priced antiquish emporium this aft and a couple who I'de gestimate to be in their late sixties were selling some of their Stuff on the grounds that their kids don't want it, don't appreciate it and will probably bin it when the time comes. So they're selling it now and giving them the cash. Kudos to them.

Oh GQ, I think I'll pass that idea on to my parents!!! Hee, hee. TBH, I'd love it if they sold the darned Stuff and KEPT the money themselves!

I am also feeling the end of term buzz but my colleague always used to refer to the feeling/behaviour as De-mob fever! I have one more day to work :D

:) Lucky you! My employer is working business as usual until Friday at 5 pm (then we're decamping en masse to a house of the public for a small sweet sherry before going home to take tea with the vicar).

And if you believe that, my lovelies, I have some splendid tulip bulbs which are sure to make your fortune, form an orderly queue with your life-savings, no need to shove, room for plenty more.:rotfl:

I'm working till Friday too, and as my employers are US-based I expect that unless I shut down my laptop and phone and lock them away they'll be bothering me until about midnight... and I'm working all except the statutory holidays (I did have to tell my boss what they were...). But it's a quiet time of year as lots of people are off, so I might actually get some work done!

Well, it's one of the joys of being self employed - I just forego the income and have the time off instead!

I always volunteered to work between xmas and new year when I was waged, I could get loads done because chattering colleagues were not there!!

    Many Happies for yesterday VJ'sMum.
Oh MrsM - what a bu**er - do hope you'll be able to get a suitable replacement. Its horrid when favorite and much used items get broken, somehow the replacements are never quite the same. Managed to get all my boat cushions off the spare bed where they were being stored and into the RoD over christmas as both spare rooms are needed for visitors. I was going to deliver all my local cards this morning and do a couple of errands. Delivered two cards - DS2 house was on the way and he was home so ended up having a cuppa with him for an hour or so then bumped into an old work colleague I havn't seen for a few years in the supermarket - another half hour there, when I came out it was sleeting so I thought I'm not getting in and out of the car in this weather so went home! Did manage to do some more chores though and put a couple of things in the CS bag. Tomorrow looks to be dry so I'll try again lol.
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Yep, me too. I'd be happy to be working more in fact, but as I haven't got any bookings I'll just enjoy the time. Today is a free day bar a couple of phone calls so I'm going to do all my wrapping. I am useless at wrapping, it usually looks as if it's been done by a chimpanzee with access to a tape dispenser but hey ho - people just rip it off anyway.

VJsmum - sounds like a perfect birthday, belated birthday wishes.

Topher - you've got it exactly right with your bureau! Congratulations. The KM effect will gradually spread, when you feel you're struggling go back to the bureau for inspiration.

The 'no decorations' thing is mainly because I live alone and have no visitors coming over Christmas this year. I'll be at my sister's over the Christmas break itself. The thought of putting up tinsel just for me and the cat to see and then taking it down - meh. Some years I do, but not this one.
