KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

I've had my third sweep through clothes since I started kondoing last year, and a few more items have become non-sparkers. This is the last day of my hols, and the sun is beaming from a bright blue sky. So I've some sweet peas to plant, a CS run, then the day is mine.
The thought of paying someone to store my stuff.... Three friends have used storage for periods of about a year each, connected with moving house. When they retrieved the stuff, most of it got turfed due to not suiting or fitting their new location, died in storage, or they realised they didn't need it anyway, but simply hadn't been able to let go of the stuff beforehand.
I think we're all on a Stuff spectrum, some people are at the very sticky, stuffocation end, others at Peak Minimalist and many of us doing our best to move to a new, healthy for us Optimum Stuff setpoint.0 -
BBC Breakfast running a story this morning regarding commercial storage space - ie the storage units you pay for. Figures been quoted are that 70 % of the available storage space in Europe is in this country:eek: And whilst I was picking my chin up off the floor I am sure I heard that 70% of that is used for 'domestic storage':eek: That is an awful lot of 'stuff' They are giving some decluttering tips later in the program but I will already on the road so wont see it..........I am sure we dedicated kondoites could give them a few:rotfl::rotfl:
Yes, I saw that too. I thought of this thread immediately!:D0 -

Have a couple or four items lurking in the RoD that I've been procrastinating about. I'll put them on Fleabay & if they don't sell they're going to my local hospice shop. Bought some cut off's yesterday - lovely colour & style but too big on the bum and too tight in the leg so being returned today. DH was complaining his phone was crackly and he couldn't hear properly. The phone co is no longer so I bought him a new one ( cheap) when I got home I decided to take the battery out of his old one and replace so that the phone reset itself - result it's working fine! Need to see if I can return the new one too. He did say to keep it for Justin but I said they are updating phones all the time so it's not worth it ( how diplomatic of me
)
Weather here is pants so think I'll have another go at the RoD todaySmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -

My sympathies. Years ago in a rural bungalow I had them coming in via the bathroom, via the tiniest hole next to a water pipe. I put a blob of washing up liquid in it, they can't cope with the viscosity of that, and a couple of days of doing that fixed it. But I had to watch for ages beforehand to find out how they were getting in.“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0 -
Some acquaintances get wine brought back from France by a pal who lives over there. Its in a winebag format and they get it straight from the winery - as in, out of the vat and into the winebag, boxed and into the back of your car.
Everyone who drinks it doesn't get a headache or a hangover, no matter what quantity is drunk and in combination with what other foodstuffs or drinks. Yet they always do when drinking wines, even wines of the same grapes, which have been bottled and shipped here.
Gotta be some kind of preservative, I reckon.
It will be - DH makes his own, from grape concentrate and from fruit, and all are hangover-free. Unless you also consume g&t, beer, or champagne alongside!2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Hello everyone, have been AWOL for a while......
Holiday in Barcelona, son's wedding. Etc.
Then we had all that glorious weather so I just spent a few days pottering In the garden and just soaking up all that lovely sunshine and Vitamin D ......
Over the last few days whilst it has been raining I have been catching up with some Kondoing. Went through my bedroom again and have managed to get rid of a large ottoman that stood at the bottom of my bed. The room looks much better without it, plus I now have a dedicated yoga space:D without first having to move everything around.
I've made a start on the study, my desk is done just the side unit now, will make a start later today. I've bought some industrial steel shelving ready to tackle the cellar of doom........ I am so ready for this.:D
Re primal eating. I am now following a Paleo style/Mediterranean style diet. Have lost 3/4 stone. More to the point I have cured myself of IBS and GORD. Still a few headaches but generally easing off and still some Fibro pain but really starting to reap the benefits.
I am completely grain free, have reduced my reliance on starchy root vegetables and try to restrict my intake of nightshade plants. The health benefits are making themselves felt already, blood sugars much improved as well as improved digestion.
I love the Paleo, way of eating - as well as the health benefits and weight loss I find it tastes delicious and I never get bored with the choices.
KARMACAT - missing you on the millionaires thread. :rotfl: only 12 weeks or so till you retire, how exciting. I think you will love it.......you will have time for you......
I know my retirement isn't the one my husband and I had planned, and I've had to adjust to being a widow but It is almost 2 years now since his death and although I miss him of course I do enjoy being retired.
I have managed to shed the "mantle of widowhood" and have embraced life as a singleton.
(No I'm not dating :rotfl:) I'm not interested. No one can fill his shoes although of course never say never;).
I am learning to travel alone, I'm getting out and about and have started planning my future and deciding what I actually want out of life. I am serene, happy and content.
Just take it easy as you approach your run up to retirement, you don't need to make any big decisions straight away, in fact I would advise against it. Time enough yet to decide what you want. Just spend some time "catching up with yourself".
Karma. Feel free to pm me - even if it's just for a bit of a chat.0 -
Well that was hard work! Managed to get a king sized very heavy draylon waterbed frame down from the attic along with all wooden components of the bunk beds, still need to locate the metal fixings for the side rails etc. Would not have managed without ds2s help he worked like an ant all morning. Somme of the wood panels will be usable as boarding for dd2s attic as it is very strong Dh has got his eye on a couple of the sturdy plank like pieces but has agreed that 80% should not have even be put up there 30years ago. Have promised dss2 that because he worked so hard my stereo can come down and go into the spare (now music) room. It needs a new stylus but was my st birthday present and the lads have wanted it back downstairs for so long that I think it will be more joyful down in a room than up in the attic.
I am regaining space in the attic, I actually sat up there for 5mins before work just smiling at the big space I'd created by bringing the beds down.
Off to get the stereo and give ds2 a laugh at my vinyl collection.
Be joyful, even in the rain.SPC~12 ot 124

We had ants start getting into our dining room a few years ago having lived here for years with no problem. They were walking round the edges of the room. Couldn't work out how they were getting in, but there was a large gap between the bottom of the skirtings and the concrete floor below, so in desperation we filled the gaps with silicone sealant, like you use in bathrooms and it stopped the majority of them. We've since had an extension built against one of the dining room walls and we've never had any problem with them since thank heaven.
It can be desperately difficult to try and work out where they are getting in, you have my sympathy.
We now keep getting woodlice in our sunroom and can't work out how these are getting in either. Fortunately they die very quickly in the dry conditions.Make £2025 in 2025
