Welcome back to the thread Kaz
Hope all is well with you.
Morning all
Today I will be painting a sign for the Village hall.I have got the Donkey work of painting the base colour and a very talented friend has been roped in to do the sign writingThe posts are 9 ft long for it so is going to take a bit of time me thinks. Will have to keep moving round into the shade as it looks like its going to be very hot here today. So I will leave the roads to the Holiday makers and weekend vistors and stay at home.
Some great kondoing going on :T.Have just purchased a new joy sparking set of saucepans :rotfl:and the old ones have already been taken down to the shed at the Village hall I love that shed it brings me loads and loads of joy as I dont have to have any carp in my house for longer than 2 mins and then off it goesIts like having a 24 hour charity shop on your doorstep
Enjoy this lovely weather and make the most of it good luck with rug cleaning, plant and fruit planting growing, kondoing, painting or cleaning. Or just reading a book in the Sun but what ever it is find the joy in it after all we will never see this day again.

Worked in the garden yesterday Kondoing the remainder of the veg plants into their new homes. A good tidy and sweep and everything is looking in good order. DH brought out our little bistro set for the patio - getting quite continental - ooer missus!
Checked the weather report and wind direction so DH, DS1 and I are taking the boat out on her first trip of the season to make sure everything is in good working order. Little bit nervous but I'm in good company!
Hope everyone gets to enjoy this good weather - Mavvy you are absolutely right!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
I've washed the dust sheets ready for next week and am about to get back to carpet-cleaning. The bit I've done is still damp, but there is a definite difference in the colour between that and the bit that's left to do.
Good to see you Kazw0 -
Opportunistic kondoing of the airing cupboard yesterday: I needed to change from my winter duvet to my summer one, pronto, and got rid of:
- two single sheets, left over from the time when I ran workshops in London that had mattresses on the floor. I still have 3 single sheets to put on my single bed, which has only been used about 4 times in the 6 years I've lived here!
- a draught stopper - I don't use it, I don't like them. I've been keeping it to use as part of the hay cooker, but I don't need it for that.
- most shamefully of all, I found the smock that I wore at my brother's wedding - erm, I was a teenager at the time, and I'm retiring in a few months. That tells you quite how old this thing isI cut it up, as its nylon "lace", I'm going to use it as a flycover for open things in the kitchen.
V pleased :j2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
My husband "hoards" old electronic stuff and he has realised this week that some of it is broken so that carp will be leaving the house soon. :T It's great as I had been trying to ignore it, but it does bug me.
There is still lots left, but I have stored it all out of sight. We also moved his ancient stereo and put it in the upstairs cupboard so it won't be taking up space in the living room.
The bag with the clothes to be recycled will be leaving this coming week. Doing quite well really!:A
It's gorgeous weather here, but quite hot so I will probably be doing some more light tidying up later.0 -
I've finished washing the carpet
Fabulous weather here too, so hopefully it will dry relatively quickly. Dust sheets are clean and dry (apart from the ones the builders have obviously taken home for the weekend...), laundry is done (although not put away).
Next job is to put down the underlay so that when I find a willing volunteer I can move the carpet into the bedroom, where it will probably dry rather more quickly than in the garage.
While I'm waiting for a volunteer I can get on with moving things out of the room that needs emptying. I'll be glad when this is all done and I can stop playing tetris with my belongings for a bit!0 -
Sounds like hard work but rewarding, greenbee. I've cleaned readicut type rugs, heathrug size, in the bath by treadling them in soapy water. Hard work and they take days and days to dry even in summer.
I put mine in the washing machine once upon a year, in desperationI'd made it myself and it had a white background, it was 30 years old and made of pure wool, and I just couldn't get it looking nice with carpet shampoo any more.
It worked a treat, but it took weeks to get rid of all the little wool fibres it left in the machine which of course attached themselves to everything else I washed, even though I thought I'd cleaned them all out of the machine.
The rug looked a treat though!0 -
sadly, Ivyleaf, the rug in question is approx 15m2...
It's now clean (well, cleaner than it was...). Underlay is down (recycled wool mixed with new wool - smells of sheep but is clearly made from all the wool that you lot have kondo'd over the past 18 months!). Rug is drying in the garage, but about 25% is rolled up as the garage still has too much builders stuff in it. And it's too heavy for me to take up stairs on my own which is annoying me.
I've cut the fringes off one end - the other will have to wait until it is in place.
I do put the small rag/cotton/chenille rugs in the WM and they come up beautifully. It's usually round about this time of year, but I'm going to have to wait for the builders to go before I get going on the spring cleaning.
Next job is to clear up the dust made by putting the underlay down, and then start clearing the last bedroom. Not sure where it is all going to go!0 -
I have two Chinese wool rugs, one either side of our bed on the floorboards. They could really do with cleaning, but when DH spilt red wine on one (:o) it cost £35 at the cleaners! Anyone recommend a method?2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
