Hi Kondoistas!
A further update on the kitchen...
Reorganised the countertops, there is so much more space (as the tea caddies etc are in the spacious cupboards!) juicer, slow cooker and microwave to one side with tins, packets and spices in cupboard above.
Other side has crockery, breakfast items (and baking items in the hard to reach corner) cupboard, with kettle and blender below. Just made a smoothie and a cup of tea. Usually I forget to add the flax seeds or fruit molasses to the smoothie but today, as they are both facing out in the cupboard above the blender, I made it right!
Now have enough cupboard space for recycling bin, so ordered some bags for it.
I definitely have loads of kipple and stuff floating about so I will attack that later.
I might struggle a bit with stockpiling food and toiletries, as being both bargain hunter MSE and having CFS, the tendency has been to get home delivery shopping/see a bargain buy it now!Jan 20 - NST challenge

It really p's me off when they change the clocks as I spend a couple of days twice a year feeling jet-laggy and discombobulated.
Despite attempts to slink off and read the newspaper, and her bleats of I'm a terrible procrastinator I have managed to keep Mum on-subject for about 20 minutes. In that time we have kondo'd two of the shelves above their his & hers wardrobes. These are where knitwear and Misc roosts.
Dad's wardrobe doors were blocked with the crate-which-was-broken and the card-crate (latter in the loft now and former in porch accruing bits for the tip run). And then there was a holdall of jumpers which couldn't be put onto the wardrobe shelves because there was no room (too much Misc and bad folding technique).
Holdall is now emptied, 3 bulky knits for donation, one for pulling out, one for intra-family gifting, all knitwear back on proper shelves. We've also found a pair of unworn slippers for Dad to use when his current ones wear out.:o
Can see a bit of the wall now, it is an outside wall near the window and has grown mould, so will clear that off but am first having a cuppa to re-inforce my nerve.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I'm thinking of buying something for storing grandchildren's bits and pieces that they leave here. They come here after school 4 evenings a week and sleep over once or twice a week, more in school holidays. At the moment they obviously have some pjs and underwear here, a few games, books and art stuff. Some of it is no problem e.g. their DVDs and computer discs live with ours, no problem, toothbrushes the same. I think a small set of drawers in the bedroom they are using with space for art supplies and bits of clothing so they are all in one place. I currently use the drawer space in "their" room for all my paperwork for a bit of consultancy work I do and my tax papers so no room for their stuff. Now is it naughty to go and buy it or is it a good idea, I suppose their stuff all being together and tidy would bring me a bit of joy so a good idea?Sell £1500

Hmm, in terms of consolidating their stuff at your house, it could be more efficient to have a piece of furniture dedicated to that purpose. Or you could try alternative thinking and get each child a selection of supermarket shopping bags, the kind that stand up themselves - the ones with woven plastic type cloth and fabric handles.
These are cheaply available and come in many varied and very attractive designs. The advantage of these is extreme portability, divisiability of the items (and fast clear ups, laundry put-aways) and that they can be re-purposed later on. Also, things are less likely to get lost and overlooked (and outgrown or died-in-storage) in this kind of set-up.
Say, for example, you do purchase something like a chest-of-drawers. The life point where you are now, with DGCs staying over, will only last a few years. Then you will be left with a redundant piece of furniture. Which will accrue Stuff (because that's what happens to a vacuum) and itself likely become a piece of clutter.
OK, you could say, I can get something cheap enough, then sell/donate it once its no longer needed, and this is true. But you will have logistical issues coming and going, and an extra obstacle to any cleaning and redecoration whilst its on the premises.
I tend to think of furniture as being such a PITA that it's best to think long and hard about the acquisition of any of it, even if its a freebie or cheap-as-chips.Just my two'pennorth, anyway.

Lovely day here, we're doing more laundry and have the windows open. I found a bit of mouldy bedroom wall which I have washed down and am allowing to dry. I wonder about the heatlh costs of Stuff esp the lack of airflow causing moulds and dust due to excess furnishings/ boxes and bags of Stuff piled up in homes.............Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

And I really need to finish picture Kondoing. I have found it really difficult to decide what wall pictures spark joy, i'm not that artistic and it isn't easy to be completly honest with myself on this one.
it is the long curls that does it, I think. I do not like pictures of people on walls, they are always looking at me, but, as a concession to dh, we have a few pictures of our family over our sofa, where I don't see them, in a frame I picked.:D

I can see I am going to have to have a good think. Mind you my two youngest haven't started with babies yet so I think I am going to have grandchildren around for quite a while, DD is talking about 2 or maybe 3 years and then trying for babies. Youngest son it some way off, he is still playing the field but then again unless he moves a bit closer to home I can't see his children being here on a regular basis, I may be a bit soft but I am not doing a 225 mile drive to pick up after school. Honest.Sell £1500

Hi FLA27, artistic for me does not come into it. Is there any type of art that makes your heart jump a little. I do not like pictures of people on walls, they are always looking at me, but, as a concession to dh, we have a few pictures of our family over our sofa, where I don't see them, in a frame I picked.:D
I've also got a couple of water colours painted by another friend. One is in the guest bedroom (lovely narcissisi) and the other(two cranes -slightly oriental) in the sitting room
I don't have much else on display as I do like the space!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Oddly enough, I was pondering the health benefits of stuff over the last couple of days. Specifically bags. There is a good reason I favour rucksacks for luggage: you put them on, adjust the straps and you're balanced. So a couple of bags are on their way out as they're no longer comfortable when slung fashionably over one shoulder.
Great new story from The Minimalists... how decluttering can lead to what I shall refer to as more... marital harmony :rotfl:
