KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Lately, I have not had any problem sending things for repair or refund without their original box, as long as they are boxed up securely. I don't necessarily think you have to keep it GQ. People don't have the space to keep original wrapping these days.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Yeah, the delivery guys suggested they keep them for a few months only, so I'll be gunning to have them outta there by Xmas if not sooner, but they're not my appliance boxes and it isn't my loft - I do consider I have a proprietory interest in the loft as I'm the only one who tidies up there.
Just been and kondo'd a deep drawer of Mum's, the undies/ socks drawer and it was turned from a rammed hell-hole which would barely close into neatly sorted by category and contained in shoebox/ other box a la MK. She seemed suitably impressed.:rotfl:
I haven't suggested she roll her socks or even thank them, I'm taking this one step at a time. Two sweatshirts, in as new condition, will be hitting the chazzer soon, where they will be serving someone else's needs rather than being unused in this household.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Have kondo'd another drawer and also investigated a huge shopping bag of Stuff on her bedroom floor. It was mainly paperwork but some magazines and some random stuff. Mostly dating from 2005.
I find little caches of papery stuff around this place, often from the same year, as they've obviously been scooped up together at the same time to tidy them away, and never gone through.
I kind of have the attitude that if it's important, it should be filed, unless until its superceded such as a new eye prescription. If it's unimportant, it should be outta here so fast that its feet don't get under the table.
I am now about to take some items downstairs for maternal arbitration as Mum is knitting. We'll leave in about an hour for the horsepickle visiting and that will take care of the rest of the afternoon.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Been doing some shed kondoing this week....started with 3 sheds.
Shed 1 got emptied into the new garage minus bits for bin or sell which wasn't much.
Shed 2 which was kids toys and bikes went in shed 1
Shed 3 holds garden stuff and hubbys bike
Shed 2 has been taken away and I now have space to put my table and chairs there.
We have a very long garden which I hate so am really pleased I have somewhere to sit that's more central nowHave a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0 -
Wow you're all busy, THREE sheds! :rotfl: GQ you're making good progress. I sympathise about the carrier bags of paper. One of my worst habits (although I know I'm not alone in this!) has been to 'tidy up' when expecting visitors by scooping all loose papers and kipple into a bag, thereby clearing the surface and giving myself a little pat on the back because now it's portable. I can take that bag into another room and sort it all out while I'm watching TV. Except that the bag usually gets overlooked and even if I remember it i don't feel like doing it and then weeks later I'm searching for the receipt/new cheque book/bill that I know I've received but ...
I can honestly say that there are currently no such bags in my house and I really hope that there never will be again! It is possible to change the habits of a lifetime.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -

Excatly what my plans are this holiday - revisit the sheds. One is going to create a lovely place to put our table and chairs....a bit of a suntrap which is wasted really ............its the DDs play shed which they loved but as they are now allegedly adult and fledgling adult, its time for it to go. I shall miss it as they painted the interior themselves which some cute pictures ..........going to take a picture of their paintingsIts only storing empty plastic boxes and a large box of 'plastic construction' which I am going to sell. The winter storms played havoc with the roof and the door needs new hinges
I was going to give it away on fr**gle but I think with the repairs needed it will become firewood.........also discoverd the cats have been nipping in it now and then over winter too - door wasnt shutting properly:eek:

I think you may well be right. We had a brand new block paved drive put in then within a couple of weeks I had my car serviced and the new oil filter leaked on the drive - you couldn't make it up. We got some very expensive 'stuff' which biologically broke down the oil stain, but I think the cat litter may well have been a first attempt to clean it, heaven knows how it ended up in the shed. We have a cat but the one at the time was using paper cat litter so it wouldn't have been for him.
The bag was leaking so fun and games getting rid of that also.
We had a new block paved drive and within weeks two of my kids had parked on it and left oil stains. We haven't managed to get rid of the stains so if you found something that got rid of oil stains I would be really grateful to hear about it. Make me want to cry when I think what it cost and was spoilt so quickly.Sell £1500

Grinning about the other households with multiplicities of sheds. Mentioned in passing this aft was Dad saying he was going to clear out 'his' shed. This is the orginal family shed, early 1970s number 5 x 7 ft and now towards the foot of the garden.
By about the 1970s it was joined by the second shed, a 6 x 8 thereafter designated The Bike Shed, as it held all 4 faily bikes. Only 3 in there now, plus a lot of Misc
The third, newest and biggest shed is an 8 x 10 workshop shed, nearest the house, properly set up with 3rd phase elastictrickery and full of tools and Misc - ususably full at the moment. This is Mum's Shed.
She hastily said he wasn't to inferfere with that one!In today's bedroom tidy sesh I found a Gideon bible which accidentally accompanied a family member back from a stay in the same hospital we visited this afternoon. I handed it over with an apology and an explanation. We've had it about 20 years, the shame, the shame.:o
Also chucked another magasine from Mum's bedroom - only 23 years old - she decided she didn't need it.
Poor chaps handling theire recycling wheelie next week will need to be strong.....:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hi GQ perhaps you could take the tape off the boxes and fold them flat ? At least they would look lessFocus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0

So sorry your Nan is in hospital again GQ
Wishing her well soon.
Loved the goat stories. Mine is from when we were on a coach holiday in South Tyrol (right up in the North of Italy) and went on an excursion to the Dolomites, where we had lunch in a restaurant on a mountain. When we come out afterwards we found a goat which had taken a dislike to someone's car number plate and was attacking the plate with its horns. It didn't stop until it had managed to get the thing off the car! The poor owner, but no one fancied trying to deter the goat.0
