Happy New Year Kondoites and wishing you all much liberation for 2016.
Thank you for setting up the new thread greent and thanks to everyone posting for setting off the new year so positively. Loving the song suggestions.
Spent yesterday evening seeing in the New Year with friends so a slow start today. Big lesson learned as a bottle of champagne which had been on my wine rack for about 12 years had definitely gone off and was totally undrinkable so it wasn't worth saving it for a special occasion.
No longer saving things for best, as "best is now" is going to be my mantra for 2016.
This week will be a lovely quiet week as my regular activities don't start again until the following week so planning to get as much kondoing done as possible whilst I have the energy available.
Started this afternoon (still in my jammies) on clearing old lists etc from my desk and clearing a space ready to make a proper start tomorrow. Am keeping a list of everything that goes out as I find this helpful to refer back to when I feel that nothing is shifting.
Had Mary Portas' TV programme on catch up whilst clearing desk and was very pleased that I possess none of the best selling products of 2015! I guess there'll be a lot of spiralizers and nutribullets in CSs and on rubbish dumps in the near future.Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅0 -
Hi all Loving the new thread. I started kondoing my house last year and got about 90% done but then ground to a halt so am restarting this year as I'm still delighted with the bits that have been done. Thanks for the link to the new book I didn't know she had written another one but I might just reread the bible to give me an added push.
If anyone is swithering about doing this just give it a go you will be delighted :jkonMarie and fabbing all the way

Let me know if you spot them - I have a mini spiraliser and want a proper one. And I'd quite like a nutribullet, but as I already have a blender and a juicer can't really justify it. But it would come in handy... will have to keep an eye on freegle :cool:0 -
I hadn't even heard of a spiraliser till I watched Mary Portas's show but wondered what the long thin coloured bits of veg were YS down to 5p in Tesco every evening :rotfl:0

How about this for a theme song ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QNIflxg5Cs

Seaotter - you could clear that porch in half a day, I bet. Start focussing on the joyous space you want. Maybe plan some lovely soft furnishings or which comfy seat, or a nice window dressing to inspire you. Then think of the 'stuff exit strategy' - as GQ and others have said that is vital. Once you have these in mind you adopt the KM method to decide what stays. You can tehn remove the stuff that is going and get it gone! You will find a natural place for those things that are staying but this will be elsewhere in your home, and it may take time and experimentation to get it just right. I am excited for you, I wish I could pop over to yours to help but, do you know what? You can do it without physical help because you have your virtual friends and fellow kondoites here :j
Thank you for the encouragement - I've been thinking about it on and off through the day and I do think it would make a lot of difference to life generally if I just get in there and sort it. I think I need to set aside a day, though, to make sure I actually clear stuff out and don't just move it!! I'm going to go and look in my diary to find a day I can set aside. I know I have a busy few weeks at work so it might be a little while, but having the day in the diary will hopefully give me something to look forward to, and keep me focused on the day.Declutter our home in 2024

Happy new year all. I am still in my PJ's (first day in a very long time that I have done that), so not a lot of kondoing going on here today, but as I was sat watching TV this afternoon, I realised that the curtains behind where I sit bug me every day. Why? There is a tie back missing and has been for months so why have we kept the other tie back? It's now in the bin and I don't have to think about it anymore
I have finished (I hope) the children's paperwork, their nursery, pre school art and crafts, you know the sort of thing. I have whittled it down from five large boxes to just one between them keeping the sentimental and important pieces but the rest have gone. It amazed me how many paintings I kept before that were just splodges of paint on paper.
My next task will be notebooks, I have too many of them!0 -

This might work, depending on your lifestyle, temperament and other commitments, or it mightn't.
If I could make a suggestion, how about finding a charity shop which is easily accessible to you on your way to somewhere else (workplace, supermarket, school run, visiting family, whatever) and aiming to drop off there very regularly in small amounts. Say a carrier bag or two at a time, when you are heading somewhere else. Or a box or so, if you can bring a car to the door of the shop.
To me, the trick is regularity. Due to the exceptional smallness of my home, Stuff hauled out of its habitat for disposal literally has to sit on the living room floor, very much in view and underfoot. It's a great incentive to get rid of it quickly, because the gains are so visible and the consequences of not getting rid are so annoying.
Perhaps have a fleet of carrier bags lined up ready to go, and pick one or two off at a time. Perhaps co-opt other members of the household into the activity (if applicable).
Some charity shops are open even on Sundays (check their websites for details) and others may offer a collection facility if you have a lot of stuff ready to go.
The downside of planning a big push on any activity on a pre-determined day is that life can have other plans. You wake up with a migraine/ someone gets rushed to the hospital/ the car breaks down/ the charity shop is closed for refurbishment for a fortnight.........
Whereas if you're pecking away at it, little by little, the consequences of losing a day or two won't make much difference to the overall result.
Anyroad, that's my two'pennorth, from experience. I also have an Irish pre-Euro tuppence among the random old coins turned up int the decluttering this week.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Happy new year all!
Now the festivities are over I can't wait to start kondoing again. I have taken most of my Dec's down today, just left the tree for a couple of days longer. I even managed to kondo some of the Dec's I didn't use this year.
I already have earmarked a new look over undies and socks to kondo down more and maybe swap the drawers to fit into 1.
Welcome to all the newbies, and may 2016 be very joyful.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
Can anyone suggest what to do with my DD underwear that she has outgrown?
It's clean, in good nick (no stinks or stains!) but I've no idea what to do with it except put into ragging at the CS, which feels a little wasteful when it still has life in it although it's not an item most would buy second hand.
I shall see if her nursery would like some to cover accidents etc but I can't see them wanting all of itWhether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0
