HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL KONDITES NEW AND OLD!
(And GQs Gary) you gave us many a laugh
Well as we've Kondoed an old year.
Let 2016 be the year we all finally 'OVERCOME THE ROOT'
    I'm loving that phrase

I will be using that when I'm trying to overcome many bad habits
By getting to the root of why I do it.

Best wishes to you all in 2016 whatever
    it brings us. XXX

  • Happy 2016! Let's hope it brings us everything we hope for and more.

Hubby is working today, so the little folk and I are just having a lazy day. We're even still in our PJs! We'll have to get dressed at some point though, don't worry - we're popping out for a New Year cuppa with some friends later on.

We'll be continuing our family Kondo journey this year, but I've got 'home' issues on the mind at the moment. We've been saving and seriously considering moving house in the last year, and amazingly I'd stopped thinking about it in Nov/Dec as our Kondo clear-outs had made this house feel joyful, spacious, clear and centred...even with Christmas trees thrown into the mix in the living room and kitchen!

However, a 'dream' home with every additional feature we've ever wanted and talked about has just come onto the market in the next village and it's thrown us into a spin. I'm hesitant to view it before we've completely mulled over if we do or don't want to move now.

Do we blow saving as much over the next year or three for a potential move? We know things will be tighter until our littlest-little goes to school and isn't costing us £600+ a month in additional childcare costs. Or do we stay put in a location that doesn't bring us quite as much joy, in a home that is perfectly suitable?

It's not really a Kondo question, as without my mission to stay organised we'd fill, outgrow and feel chaotic in any space...:rotfl: It's more a question that has 2 acceptable answers! Oh the pressure!

Hubby has said let's view it as there's no obligation, we're young, we still have 15-20 years of having children at home with us to enjoy...

My inner-stingy voice is saying we could stay put and save the £3-5k of moving costs...

Strangely, my dad died 5 years ago, which is what allowed us to buy this home. We looked carefully, viewed lots and chose this one as it had everything we wanted/needed, but from the moment we moved in it didn't feel 'quite right' or as 'home-like' as our first home did.

It's strange, but my "gut" is usually right. Perhaps we should view and see what it "feels" like. Plus, the market may make the choice for us and someone else may snap it up/we may not sell in time.

    I hate the uncertainty. Hehe. I'm a planner!:rotfl:

    Happy New Year everyone.

I've discarded the old slippers in favour of the new ones that I received for Christmas :T - but have kept the box that they came in as it should come in handy :) as I'll need to put it in my chest of drawers as they are a bit too big to store things on edge when folded - things like t-shirts just flop over as there is nothing to support them. :(

I've been intrigued reading through the posts on this thread. I know I need to do something to sort out and declutter our home - and I wonder if this is it (although it all sounds slightly crazy to be honest!). We have too much stuff, and much of it is in a mess which I am largely responsible for. What I would like to do is clear a small back porch which has little use but I would love to have as a bit of 'me' space where I can sit, read, drink tea, pray, reflect - not all those things at the same time, and not necessarily in that order! Because it has little use the porch became a dumping ground for boxes of stuff, including things inherited from my mum which at the time I didn't want to keep but didn't know what to do with. But I need to face these for a whole number of reasons, including wanting to reclaim the porch as a pleasant place!

Time is not on my side - I have very little spare time and I need to be more disciplined with what time I do have, and how I spend it!

Seaotter - I think the porch as a space "just for you" would be wonderful........yes definitely make that a priority.

Mavymoo - thanks for your thoughts Re pictures - I have had the same dilemma. I have so many of them and yes they cost me money but realistically they don't give me joy any more. I have been saving them for when I move I to my new house but now I realise. I don't really like them any more. My tastes have changed.

I shall thank them and let them go..........

I'm just going to have a fridge and freezer sort out, and cook a nice healthy dinner.

Tomorrow I will take the tree down and then next week the kondoing starts again in earnest.

    I'm ready for Round 2....:rotfl:

    Happy New Year Everyone.

The tv's and one ipad could be broken though. My tv looked new when it gave up the ghost last year but it was old technology and had already been repaired once. If we were maybe more like the people who dumped this stuff then maybe we would have no need for threads like this :D My mum is ruthless and has never kept anything she had no use for. That's why there will never be any antiques in my family! Unfortunately I went in the opposite direction to her and have usually kept stuff 'just in case..' :o
  • Happy 2016 fellow Kondoites!

My goodness on that link Ellidee. :(

I had a KM win the other day. My hobby is glass fusing, so cutting glass and then it melts in a kiln. I occasionally go to classes and end up with finished pieces. Some are displayed or given as gifts (only if someone has requested that I make them something specific). Others are more 'learning pieces' where I was learning how to do something new or use a new piece of equipment.

In particular I make a lot of glass bunting, I enjoy it. It pains me to throw out glass as the decomposition time is something like a million years. However, I had some pieces where I only saw the flaws, the edges that were not quite aligned, the colour chosen was not quite right, etc. These pieces have been sitting in the wardrobe taking up space.

I put them on the local free site just to see if someone would use them. Not 10 minutes later someone claimed and with someone else right behind them. The lady who collected them was very appreciative to receive them and had plans of where she would display to catch the sun, etc.

A thought that now comes to me now when evaluating if something sparks joy is 'will someone else appreciate this more than me?'
