I do wish his mum would stop buying him socks at Christmas. He has 4 sock drawers........... I seriously wonder if we'll ever need to buy any new ones. One drawer has 4 multipacks of brand new socks in it!
Can I recommend socks n chocs - https://www.facebook.com/sockschocs/ (can we add them to page 1 as a good way of donating socks to charity, both new and used - they go to homeless shelters) - or just dropping in to your local homeless shelter.

DH and I did a sock drawer emptying fest and managed to donate over 100 pairs of socks... really!) to our local centre for homeless people. The sight of someone whipping his shoes off on the doorstep to pop a pair of socks on his bare feet was really humbling... and got us more than two big bags of space back.

I think I have finally nailed paper. Phew. Multiple attacks on Mount Papier over several months yielded numerous bags of recycling and shredding. Finally today I reached the summit and have corralled almost kondo-like. I can't quite bring myself to stick it all in one box yet. I have one box with long term keeps - flat purchase, important certificates like degree and exams etc. Then I have the more regularly used stuff divided into 5 categories in a small file box - utilities, car, money, health, work. It is a vast improvement on what used to be.
I just need to find a suitable hiding spot for the file box - easy to get to for updating things but out of sight in the event of ne'er-do-wells.

  • Oh goodness, I've had a revelation about how eccentric my housekeeping habits are. Hygiene wins out on chopping boards and toilet cleaning (and taps), frugal OS reusable cloths and vinegar with lemon juice for the rest. Also, I keep my hand held vacuum in the small wardrobe in my room - as that is the room I'm most likely to use it in. I realise that it's daft for me to feel like I have to justify the cleaning methods I want used in my home when I am paying (and at a fairly generous rate), but it feels like I'm being really awkward which isn't the case at all.

A friend told me when I first got ill to get used to spending money on my health, the required frugality I can do, paying for help is more tricky. Hoping for some more kondo woo to help propel me through this! Everything feels too much to keep on top of atm.

Oooh, today I learned I can kondo fold clothes while crashed out watching iplayer :) Some of my friends are due to move in a few months, I'm trying to not go all evangelical about kondoing - isn't really working! Woo is contagious :D

Loving the virtual Georgian Rectory Garden theme - we could all bring our kept Justin Case things - granny's tea set, aunt Minnie's doilies etc. Very little KM going on here although did KM a dozen spare flower pots to DS2 along with a couple of gardening books. Just realised I can add these to my ' no clutter' score. Also took 3 bags to CS and a bag of plastic bags to RC yesterday.

Love the vision of the Victorian secret walled garden.
Yesterday we swapped the contents of two chests of drawers over to make DHs stuff easier to get to. Threw a load of honey socks away - they were all gone through on the heel so couldn't be donated to anything.
Wardrobe all neat and tidy again, my half mostly brings me joy but there are some trousers I've not worn in ages I need to try on and see if they are for me of the CS. DHs hanging space looks over crowded, I'll leave it for him to notice and suggest another kondo of his side.
Another few DVDs added to the CS bag and a couple of balls of wool converted into a pullover and hat for DGS

Half terms finished here so ds2, me and Dh are all back to school/work today.

    Have a joyful day all.

so this morning i was thinking about my v. large glass casserole dish - as you do. I bought it for pennies in the woolies closing down sale - which, i looked up, was december 2008. It's been used half a dozen times in that period, for large trifles, my large casserole dish of choice being a Le Creuseeeee one now over 20 years old. I have kept the large glass casserole "in case" "something happens" to cast iron one (i repeat cast iron one ;)). Glass dish is in a cupboard where the things we use most are teetering on the edge at the front and things like casseroles, cake tins, lasagne dishes are at the back.

i think it can go don't you? If "something happened" to cast iron (cast iron) one, i'd definitely buy another as eye poppingly expensive as they are... But what will i do for my large trifle - I might want to make one in a couple of years?:rotfl:

As the "having things you love on display" part of the kondoing, i had suggested to OH that we got a display case for the many Hornby engines that are in the house. The sounds of joy and whistling coming from the lounge when he loaded them in was, well, joyful... Regrettably the ones he put in there were some i didn't even know we had so we still have a plastic stacking drawer set full, and in finding those he did put in, he also found a crummy engine name plate that he now also wants on display :(

Ah well, you can't win them all
I wanna be in the room where it happens

VJ - by giving your DH great Joy you can bask in the reflected glow ;)
I can offer some lovely glass cake stands for all those delicious Mary Berry sponge cakes lol
Going to have a go at the RoD today - hopefully a bit more for the CS.
Have a good Kondoing day today all

  • I can bring some starched white napkins to the tea party. Haven't been used in 30 years.

Wellies wise, mine are dark green fisherman's wellies (normal knee length not waders!) and are lined with neoprene to keep tootsies and legs warm.

Loving your orange jeans and trousers Mav. I have pink, purple, pale green and red jeans plus a pair of stripey (both different colours and fabrics ie cord, moleskin etc) which I put on when I can't decide what to wear 'cos I'm wearing all colours and textures at once.

Have been awol for a few weeks but hoping to be back on track starting today. A few items have left my home but I need another big push on the paper which has taken over the desk again after being emptied from a box plus a couple of biggies have been brought by postie which need dealing with.
