Curry's guilty of false advertising?

Hi. I bought a TV a few days ago from curry's in store which is advertised on both the Web and in store as LED.
When I've got it home I've realised that the box says LCD, which is obviously the older technology.
Yesterday I went into a different curry's store and asked if the tv was LED, or LCD, initially they assured me it was LED, but after I insisted they check the box they agreed that it said LCD, and couldn't actually be sure what they were selling as the model number does not show up on the Panasonic website (have Adobe found out its just a Panasonic badge as the tv itself is made by a Turkish company called vestel).
Are curry's guilty in any way of false advertising if all of their literature and staff answers say LED, but the product says LCD?
If so, who do I raise this with? Thinking third party rather than in store at currys?
Secondly, I want to take the TV back as I feel I have been missold, however the tv had been unbowed and used very briefly. Do they have any right to refuse a refund?
Thanks!

Sounds like you have a case. I would print off web page protno as proof.
As I said in another post why buy from curry's? Customer service is appalling after they have taken your money, you will have a fight on your hands & many phone calls to make.
Any electrical purchases should be made from John Lewis, 5yr guarantee on tv's, they also price match Curry's. And customer service is second to none.
Good luck.

The vast majority of modern TVs are called LED, but the LED is only used as the backlight with the display still being LCD. There are no TVs where the display is made up of LED elements.
You might be confusing LED with OLED (where the O stands for organic), however these are only found on the top end models. So I probably think you were not mis-sold.0 -

It's not "older" technology either.

What's the model number of the TV?
It is definitely an LCD screen, there's no such thing as an LED screen. If it says 'LED screen' it means an LCD with LEDs lighting it up from behind. If it's been sold as LED BACKLIT, and turns out to be CCFL (fluorescent) backlit, then you could say you've been missold.
If it cost less than £1,000, it's not an OLED.0 -

I, and others, disagree as Richer Sounds offer price beating, a 5 year warranty and an extra discount (The latter two if you register as a VIP),besides covering different areas. The nearest John Lewis is an 80 mile round trip from us , whereas Richer Sounds is just a 6 mile round trip away.0 -

I am not disputing Richer sounds price or customer service. I have used them on several occasions in the past. There is not a Richer Sounds 6 miles from everybody, it might be fine for you but not for everyone.
I still think John Lewis has a better choice than most retailers for electrical items, backed up by a fantastic customer service.

Of course there is not a convenient Richer Sounds branch for everyone, but your statement implied that John Lewis was the only sensible choice, yet many of us have no branch of that company within miles.
I gave Richer Sounds as good alternative, because of its policies (beat is better than match ). It being more convenient for me, and many others, is a bonus.
I could even recommend a small one shop company, just specialising in tvs , that has even better offers, but it would, obviously, only be helpful to those living in the area.0 -
teddysmum, if you look at my 2 posts from above I was saying any electrical items at John Lewis not being specific to TV's. Richer Sounds are great at what they do but being only Hi-Fi & Tv's.
I prefer a choice of many electrical items including kitchen appliances, which John Lewis has in abundance on display.
I was only saying about John Lewis's customer service being 1st class to the OP instead of Curry's.
Some people will not want to deal with a smaller retailer & this is why they go to the likes of Curry's & John Lewis who have bigger shops to browse in. Richer Sounds shops are tiny & this might intimidate some buyers who prefer to browse before buying. They also have limited stock on display.

John Lewis online service is excellent , inc returnsNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0
