Wednesday 30th December what small DFW things will you do today?

  • Afternoon all,

Just thought I would add to the daily updates. Yesterday afternoon we (the OH and I) wandered to our local Waterstones shop to look for a baking recipe book. We'd had a £30 voucher for this shop. Found the book I wanted £25. Yikes, we didn't want to spend all our voucher in one hit! Tight I know, LOL. We will look at the second hand book shops and for online recipes. :rotfl:

Could someone give us ideas as to the best place to sell unwanted furniture. We are also open to new ways to earn extra pennies here and there. We are a one income household now that my seasonal part time job has ended. So any extra pennies will be great.

We have a £2 coin jar which has £18 in saved over the last 6 weeks. If we get pound coins in change we do ask for £2 coins if possible. Determined not to spend them unless absolutely necessary. I like a good challenge :T

    Happy Wednesday everyone.
Thanks for all the support and advice so far.
    Money scares me.

    Honesty update will arrive shortly......:o

  • Afternoon everyone :) thank you for starting us off today Dawn :)

Ally - if you get the DVD let me know please, my MIL has one stuck in her TV on her boat and can't get it out!!

PrincessPea - Hope you're feeling better

Determined - Sorry to hear your daughter is unwell, sending hugs

CLF - wow sounds like your niece has no sense of money and what it takes to earn that amount! As my mum would say it would break my heart to pay £1000 for a pair of shoes!! The most expensive thing I've ever bought clothing wise was my wedding dress and that was £250 cheap for a wedding dress but for me was hard to part with that much just for a dress!!

Pace - FB selling groups are quite good - however people normally want something for nothing and don't always turn up.
The other good ways of selling are Gumtree and Preloved :)

Not been feeling too great the last few days, not really been sleeping. Thought last week it was because of Christmas (I am like a child, I get really excited) but obviously it wasn't :/ spoke to hubby about it and he just says I should go to the docs. I don't want to though, I don't want to rely on a tablet to help me sleep. So he said if I'm not going to the docs I shouldn't moan about it :/ it upset me a bit.
Did actually get a long nap yesterday afternoon, laid down on the sofa for a rest before popping to mums at about 3, woke up and it was dark!! at 5.40!! Normally I have no problem sleeping after a mega nap but still couldn't and slept in till 10.15 this morning!!

    Today's list:
    FPL
    Lucky Phone
    BLD from stores
    Survey/s
Chase EA about back door - they are chasing LL again
    Read Martin's email
    Enter a few comps
    Check for MS's

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
Sorry you still feel bad Chocolate. You know what they say about men wanting to be problem solvers. OH may feel frustrated that he's trying to suggest helpful things but you feel better just by talking and so he is hurting your feelings because he us getting touchy.
" Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Debt neutral :) 27/03/17 from £40k:eek: in the hole 2012.
    Roadkill 17 £56.58 2016-£62.28 2015- £84.20)

  • Mum's due to visit today but thinking I may phone shortly & put her off - both of us have been looking forward to it but I don't really want her driving in this as it's not essential ... we'll see what happens in the next hour but not holding out much hope! Cancelled it - it was so windy it was just ridiculous for her to try to come. The road she comes up is really exposed & often lorries blown over (ETA just spoke to her & the road had been closed mid-morning due to a fallen tree so glad she didn't come!)

    Other things today:
    - Change bed, wash & hang doing tomorrow instead
    - Sort cats done
    - Walk dog somewhere sheltered! walked but not sheltered!
    - Take big cat to vet later - hopefully his last check up after being ill
    - 2016 budgets Postponed - he's really fine & after being out I really didn't fancy driving in that again (vets is 20 miles away!)
    - Check bank accounts done
    - Mark up calendar with various rubbish collections
    - Take down cards for recycling tomorrow & put away decs done - we have these stupid little tubs for our recyling & can you believe some eejits have them out in the street .... in this wind! (you can imagine, they're blowing around & there's rubbish everywhere )
    - Write thank you letter for pressie from Aunt & Uncle done
    - Check if cat litter back in stock (I bulk buy from Poland as it's really cheap but it's been out of stock for a few days which is a PITA!) Was stil OOS this morning but just checked again & they've got it! :T Just ordered 8 x 10L bags which should last a good couple of months so feeling of panic that I was going to run out it now subsiding!

Popped to Mr S (had a £10 off £50 spend) as wanted a couple of boxes of wine (I like the odd glass but bottles get wasted as never finish them) & had some Christmas money to put towards them. A couple of bits for Mum and some store cupboard items and I ended up paying £12.25:T by the time I'd used the voucher, Christmas money, taken mum's stuff off & my nectar points!
RFTA - I hope your back is getting better?

Thanks for asking Carrie - I think it's a bit easier getting up / down than yesterday but walking is sorer for some reason. Hopefully getting there ..... DNMS hope DD is on the mend soon

Hope everyone is safe & tucked up at home - one of my friends has been flooded and it's awful seeing the photos (and she says they were very lucky compared to some. It's heartbreaking watching the news .....
    Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
    2016 Sell: £125/£250
    £1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000
    Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!

Yeah I think that's why, he does see himself as a little problem fixer bless him.
Thinking it might benefit me to write a diary in the evening and get things off my chest, it has helped in the past.

For those of you that use YNAB is it worth the cost i.e. Have you saved more than it cost you. Also do any of you 'share' it with you partner, I really want something that DH can both use together. TIA

Yip, defo worth it. You can try it for 34 days to decide. OH and I both use it - he just logs in with my email address and password and we both have the app. Generally we do most stuff on the laptop and just use the app to track spending. So we have all our accounts in one - my a/c, his a/c, joint a/c, my cash, his cash... That's why it is so good - we both know exactly how much money we have in total. Before it wasn't clear because there was some in my a/c, some money in my purse, some money in his wallet etc - everything was a bit of a mess tbh. You can subscribe to the new one for $5 a month so only £3odds.

    Sorry - I digress...I am a YNAB convert and geek - I could talk all night :D
  • I'm liking the sound of YNAB might mention it to hubby and hopefully it will kick his butt into gear!!

Hi Chocolate - you could try the guided relaxations/visualisations on youtube - there are some good free relaxations/meditations online if you're willing to give them a go. xx

Diary also sounds like a good idea - helps clear the mind for sure. xx
