Wednesday 30th December what small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.

Thought I would start the thread today, so hopefully nobody else has had the same brilliant idea at exactly the same time :rotfl:

    My list for today:
Used up three quarters of an apple left by baby GD yesterday with my breakfast porridge. Hens can have the nibbled / brown bits :)
    Dog walks x 2
    See to hens
Go to sales unit, take out Christmas themed stuff and replace with other items. I already have the car loaded ready :D
Take down the Christmas tree and most of the decorations (I like a few bits so might leave up for a while)
Get OH to help me repot the tree
HM meals, but will need a few bits at the shops today - potatoes, washing up liquid, handwash refill and celery :)
Use up more leftovers (odd bits of cheeses for lunch!)
    Post items for postal survey
    Any online surveys / FPL
    Check banks
    Babysitting tonight

Hope everyone has a good day :)
  • Morning Dawn & thanks for the start ... and everyone who follows

Hope everyone is safe - it's absolutely vile outside :( been awake most of the night (partly down to the sore back but certainly not helped by stuff blowing around outside)

Mum's due to visit today but thinking I may phone shortly & put her off - both of us have been looking forward to it but I don't really want her driving in this as it's not essential ... we'll see what happens in the next hour but not holding out much hope!

    Other things today:
    - Change bed, wash & hang
    - Sort cats
    - Walk dog somewhere sheltered!
    - Take big cat to vet later - hopefully his last check up after being ill
    - 2016 budgets
    - Check bank accounts
    - Mark up calendar with various rubbish collections
    - Take down cards for recycling tomorrow & put away decs
    - Write thank you letter for pressie from Aunt & Uncle
    - Check if cat litter back in stock (I bulk buy from Poland as it's really cheap but it's been out of stock for a few days which is a PITA!)

    Have a good day everyone

@PrincessPea hope you feel better today
    Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
    2016 Sell: £125/£250
    £1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000
    Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!
  • Morning Dawn and all that follow :hello:

    My list for today:

Pop to shops and buy a few bits from list to maximise using up last few bits in fridge, also in need of fruit (as opposed to chocolate :rotfl:)
Check banking, update spreadsheet. Take another look at YNAB, I couldn't get to sync with my pad after the first time, if I can't do this I don't think it's worth it as I don't get in the desktop enough to be able to update it daily, also it was trying to 'spend' my savings so I need to look at that too. Am on free trial, so no cost. Any advise greatly received
    Make soup
DD has 2 friends round, find some cheap/no cost activities. May do some cakes with them.
    Check 1 poll
    Check £co
    Freeze cake
    Send back 2 sales items
    Put protector back on table
Continue to tidy out ready for next week when back at work

Knitting advise required please :o - I have found what I'd like to do next, (just need to see up current tea cosy ) but the pattern obviously gives you wool from the same brand (which is quite pricy) how do you know what is the same thickness from a different company - apologies if it is a really stupid qu :o

    Think that's all,have a good day everyone.

    Hi Jonno,

What is the name of the recommended yarn? The weight may be in the name, or if you google it, it may tell you the weight.

The needle size will also be a hint (although not necessarily gospel truth as a lacy pattern might use a much larger needle than you would use for something more solid) - this chart may help:

    Total repaid: £10,490.31
  • I read this thread everyday without fail. U r all so inspirational! I find very rarely that I have anything to post though. I generally eat all meals from stores everyday n try to save money where possible but it doesn't feel worthy of writing on here.

  • Knitting wool. I use any brand of wool that is the same type as the pattern . So Aran Aldi wool can replace rowan Aran etc.
    have fun.
Should be a nsd here thank goodness . The freezer glut scares me. Never seen it so full!!!
  • Morning everyone  thanks for starting us off Dawn :)

Sorry for those who are being hit by the storm :( we live down south and are rarely effected by extreme weather.

Plans for today need to be simple, as feeling very worried and anxious. My dd hasn't been well for the last couple of weeks. She hasn't come to contact since 4th December and cancelled all our plans over Christmas, yet somehow it is all my fault  this is one of the hardest things with my dd's illness for me, I get so chewed up with conflicting emotions when her mood is dysregulated.

    Anyway today's plan's:

    * read martin's email
    * clean kitchen windows
    * couple of loads of washing
    * all meals from stores - need to think about what we're going to have today as U forgot to get the meat out of the freezer last night...
    * check banking
    * go out for a walk
    * work out recent spends on cc and pay off from various accounts
    * might go into town - might not, will see how I feel
    * early night

    Ok think that's me x

  • Morning folks!

Thanks to Dawn for starting us off.

DNMS - I'm sorry to hear that your dd is unwell :(

RFTA - I hope your back is getting better?

    Princess_pea - I hope you're on the mend too

Could not convince m-I-l to buy tea last night and to be honest, my niece's disdainful attitude to anything less expensive than 200 quid or deemed not designer enough was making me want to slap her. She was delighting in telling me that her top was 70, her shoes were 200, her trousers were 100 etc. The last straw came when she was telling me that her step-sister's shoes cost 1000 pounds (just an aside - can't find the pound sign on this keyboard - all the buttons are in the wrong place!). Told her, that to put it into perspective, 1000 pounds was more than two months rent on my old flat. She did have the good grace to look a little shocked.

Anyway, rant over, on to today's list:

    • B/L/D from stores
    • Little jolly from work over to one of the vessels which will make a change
    • Charge phone in work
    • Checked online banking - have just about broke even for the month, but did have to borrow forward on the food shopping slightly (stocked up loads for Jan though)
    • Got an email from Yo Sushi saying that they will be sending me the missing rolling mat
    • Got an email from a company that OH bought a jumper from. He had a voucher which failed to come off the order. We asked them to credit the 40 back to his card. Instead they are going to credit his account with another 40 quid? Seems a bit cheeky although we are 40 quid up? Perhaps I read the email wrong? Good job that there was enough money in the account to cover the purchase.
Seems an unsatisfactory money saving list... might try to add more

    Have a good one all

Thank you so much CLF - makes much more sense loving the website in general :D I can feel a purchase coming on :o
  • I've had a slight bicycle mishap and need to replace the entire seat column thing. In the past I've have paid someone to do it but I'm going to go to the local place I trust and ask what I actually need to fix it and spend no more than that.

Worked out what I need to get by on this month to stay on track and it's £270, minus whatever that bike seat thing costs me. That's pretty tight for me, so my plan is to attempt to buy no alcohol (after NYE) to get me there. Won't happen, but aiming for it will help.
