Wow do they still make this stuff! It smells beautiful! I used to get granny to send us a job lot - we don't live near one...

Fullers Earth cream is wonderful for chapped noses, lips and even nappy rash. It takes the sting out of the chapped places. It's an old remedy my gran used for everything, even on sunburn

  • Neutrogena hand gel. In tiny amounts - both as it's expensive but also as it's effective. A godfather worked on a trawler for a bit & whilst not overly concerned for his delicate complexion, he learned to do as his crewmates did. Our health visitor initially blinked as we wisped "war paint" onto the toddler but he got windburned without it.

With balsam tissues, to manage the runny nose side.

Sounds odd, but I use cracked heel cream! It's a really intensive moisturiser and left on overnight it works wonders.

I always buy a cheap lip balm and apply it to my nose each time I have to blow it, it always works for me.

I was going to suggest this . It's brilliant for healing and moisturising skin. Not the Scholl one though as it has horrid plastic granules in now. Boots version is good .

  • This will sting but it really works.
I work in a shop and seem to have my cold forever but don't want to pass on my germs, so use a little antiseptic gel stuff on my hand and then put a drop round the sore nose.
Stings like 'eck for a minute but it works a treat and smells nice too.
    Get well soon.

My hands get so dry in winter, the skin splits apart and I sometimes get hands that bleed out of the breaks in the skin when very cold so I know all about moisture.
After trying many different things, I recommend the following creams which to be honest can be used wherever you want irrespective of the name.

Nivea SOS hand cream - best hand cream out there having tried a good 20 of them, thick, soothing and effective

    Body shop hemp foot butter

coconut oil - any brand - Superdrug has a pot for £2/3.

From behind the counter at any chemist in a big big big pot - Cetraben - prescribed by doctors but can buy cheaper without a prescription actually

    I hope that helps
  • Another vote for balm or super soft tissues.

Bit late for you this time round but every time I get a sniff of a cold, I buy balm or super soft tissues (the rest of the time I use cheap ones :o). I find if you start using these straight away you don't tend to suffer so bad. I also find sudocream put on overnight works but you have to catch it early as it stings a bit when you use it.
