Technically not an excuse but WASPI Campaign had posted on their FB page long before the meeting that it was intended just to be a short formal meeting to set up the group and was only for parliamentarians.
Assuming nothing but the noblest of intentions on behalf of the MPs, their torpidity is rather strange, particularly bearing in mind that the group has no agreed and costed solution to work towards.
There is a lengthy recess coming soon, which provides a limited window of opportunity for this year. The elephant in the room is the State Pension Review which has to be submitted to Crabb by January 2017. The review, whatever its conclusions, is going to bring the state pension ages of future generations into sharp focus. Championing the cause of a group asking for the monetary equivalent of rollback of the 1995 and 2011 Pension Acts is likely to be highly contentious in that environment, so it makes sense for the APPG to move quickly, agree a strategy and give the dice a roll.
One could of course argue it is irresponsible politics to be pushing for amendments to state pension legislation while a far-reaching review of it is still taking place, but needs must when the devil drives and all thatI work for a financial services intermediary specialising in the at-retirement market. I don't think there ever will be a solution, never mind a costed one, that will be agreed with WASPI founders. Even the co-founders seem to be in disagreement with each other over a solution as has been evident on Twitter recently.
All of Owen Smith's 6 options, none of which look at the 1995 Act, have been publicly rejected as not meeting waspi's demands. What will?0 -
From WASPI Facebook page.Trish Brady People keep misinterpreting because the demands of this group are unclear. I think this campaign is possibly the biggest obstacle to achieving any change in this area of policy.
Fair comment....
....now the answer from WASPIWASPI - Women Against State Pension Inequality Campaign Trish Brady Could you explain what you are doing to further the campaign, or any ideas you might have, what was your MP's response ?
She tries once again..Trish Brady What, specifically, are the 'transitional arrangements' you would like to see?
So they can't even answer a simple question!0 -

The same question has been asked numerous times and they never answer except to say that we have misinterpreted their aim.
The famous WASPI ask delivered by Anne Keen to the WPSC has been the only answer they have ever given and I feel they have regretted it ever since although will never, ever admit to it.
By the way the questions and answers you quoted above have already been deleted by WASPI. They don't allow such questions - you have to follow their rules like sheep.0 -

I was browsing on my iPad a bit earlier, and noticed that WASPI in fact DID answer Trish Brady's question about specific 'transitional arrangements'
Now I'm on my laptop, I've logged in specially to copy and paste the reply over here, but as Jem says it's all been deleted now
The reply was on the lines of 'they couldn't really say, as they don't know how much money they are going to raise yet'
I thought it was a totally bizarre answer - I'm not even sure what the reference to raising money was, but how can they have got to this stage without being able to articulate what they want?
Well, they can't actually say what they really want, as we all know their real aim is to effectively rewind the 1995 act for 1950's women - and they've already said this is what they don't want!!
They've tied themselves in knots with all this - no wonder they deleted the exchange after all - so much easier to ignore difficult questions and go 'onwards and upwards' (that seems to be said a lot)
It's getting a bit surreal now.Early retired - 18th December 2014
If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough0 -
WASPI's refusal to articulate its demands makes the whole thing something of a farce. "What do we want!" "We're not telling you!" "When do we want it!" "NOW! And backdated to 2012!"0

Bizarre.
As a fairly unique waspi supporter on these boards what do you want or expect, as waspi have no clue?0 -

Good for Mhairi Black :j
Her press release doesn't make much sense to be honest.
"Mhairi Black has joined MPs from across the House of Commons to form a new Parliamentary group on the State Pension Age. The new group will support those women hit by the acceleration of the equalisation of the State Pension Age, first in 1995 and then in 2011."
The acceleration didn't happen in 1995 - that's when equalisation happened.
The acceleration happened in 2011 and not everyone was accelerated.
The big questions still remain - what is the APPG going to actually do and what does Waspi actually want?0
