I'm affected and didn't read any of those papers but knew all about it. Back in 1995 I wasn't particularly interested in pensions so news on the state pension wasn't something I searched for.
The main problem is that newspapers weren't online then and many still don't have digital archives yet so it's not that the newspapers didn't cover it, it's just that getting hold of the articles which is the issue.
Budgets are always covered extensively, both in tabloid newspapers and TV.0 -

And i dont know quite what to say to those women who choose not to read newspapers or watch the news on TV.
I moved to britain only a few years before all this, and had 3 children under 4 when this all came about. With all the sleep deprivation and lack of leisure time that occurs. And I knew about it. Because I am not a dolt.0 -

This is why I find the whole 'I knew nothing about it' thing so embarassing for women. You managed to know about it. I'm passed the age where knowing about it means anything as it doesn't affect me. We knew about it, and most regulars on here seem to know about it, where were the rest of them? As I've said before the Pankhursts must be turning in their graves.
I think it is more about some group 'WAPSI' come on and say we knew nothing about this and demand compensation and so some say 'hey there is compensation coming our way if we deny all knowledge'. And lo there is big pay out. But only, of course if you were born by 31/12/59 and definitely not if you were born on 1/1/60. I guess we can all assume (we all know about this word don't we) that their management were all born before 1/1/60. Nothing like a bit of self interest to prime the pump!
Put it another way - an adult in the early 1990s would have had to be sitting there with their fingers in their ears going la la la la NOT to have known about the upcoming changes.0 -

Well I do have one former colleague who thinks exactly like that. She knew all about it but she's all for supporting WASPI.
I'm told that the Facebook ask came about after people kept asking what "fair transitional arrangements meant". Many people at that point were totally aghast. Interesting that the co founders are a group of women who have managed to live in Greece for 12 months, run a self employed business and whose interests involve keeping horses. Really fits the 1950s women in hardship claim - not.
What we have to remember is that, despite the numbers signing the petition, is that it is only 3% of 1950s women.
Apparently we have to contact our MPs so I will be doing so to say that WASPI does not represent me with its aim that I should be compensated. I will, however, also say that there are some 1950s women and men who do need help and instead of spending £112bn to help a group of entitled women, we should be looking at helping those who really need it.0 -

Much much less than that. Many if not most of the people have signed it will not be women born in the 1950s. They will be friends, relatives, white knights, Labour Party activists, and the sort of people who sign absolutely everything that appears in their Facebook page. The same day they signed it they probably also signed a petition calling for people who abuse dogs to be conscripted to fight ISIS and another calling for a statue of David Bowie to be permanently erected in Trafalgar Square.0 -

brilliant! - and how true :T
perhaps they're a spin-off of '38 Degrees' ?The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
Surely if you want equality womens pensions should be the same as mens...
Actually mens pensionable age should theoretically be lower as men do not live as long as women so to equal the same average amount taken in a lifetime mens pensionable age should be much lower.0
