I think these women explain their situations very well

Can you explain why Barbara Allen said that "there was a deliberate policy not to inform people born after April 1953 of state pension increases?"
This patently untrue as evidenced by Waspi themselves in their FOI requests.

It's these kind of claims that do the campaign no favours at all, especially when Waspi Campaign itself is portraying it as wonderful.0 -

No-one should be "punished" for their ignorance and if real need of help in hardship cases, they should of course get it. Perhaps the Irish way of JSA I linked to earlier would be a solution?
However are you really suggesting that other people should be "punished" for other people's ignorance as that is what will have to happen through cuts to other benefits or increase of taxes. What ones do you suggest should be "made to pay"?Are you for real?
Are you?0 -

Look - I've caught it now. Repeating or ignoring previous information! Do any of you have an antidote or is this terminal? :rotfl:
I really don't care what Miss Biggles' background is tbh. I regret to say, I find some of her opinions odious. If her background is not either of these sectors then I wonder at her apparent 'need' to be so unpleasant to WASPI women.
A psychologist would have a field day here!0 -
I still find it difficult to believe that these people knew nothing at all about the increase in pension age.
Surely, they must have caught something on TV, in a newspaper or magazine, to give them an inkling that there's been changes.
To have the level of unawareness demonstrated, it gives the impression they've been living under a rock for the last 21 years
Anyway, anything under the headline 'the great 1995 pension swindle' should be taken with a pinch of salt
I don't mean to be unkind with anything I've said in this post, but I find it all so difficult to believeEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Yes, I'm real Jem and I also have something many of 'you' seem to lack - the empathy gene, thanks to my great genetic background.
'Made to pay'? - please don't trot out that hackneyed phrase. We're all 'paying for' all kinds of things we'd rather not through our taxes. Maybe, to use another buzz word on here, you will just have to 'suck it up'.
Ooh look, I'm becoming more like 'you' already! Time to go.0 -

I don't think you are being unkind Goldiegirl and I have to agree with you to some degree but we are where we are and some of these women clearly need help.
What does astonish me is the apparent lack of empathy among so many here. Does it not make you uneasy at all because you seem to be far more measured and 'human'?0 -

Well the off camera quote in that article is disingenuous at best.
A 25 year old will be paying for any concessions to 1950s women for many years to come, with their pension age pushed back most probably a decade from what these women seem to think is their entitlement.0 -

Don't kid yourself.
I could be totally empathic ( or selfish ) and just happily accept the £36k that would be coming my way. But then that wouldn't help my children and grandchildren who will undoubtedly get to retire even later because of my "empathy".
Meanwhile I'll leave you to trying to match Twitter profiles with MSE forum users - it's actually quite amusing.0 -

Coming from a pensions/finance background, I would expect any Budget is pretty orgasmic for you but are you really not able to 'walk in other peoples' shoes' sometimes and acknowledge that not everyone has the same opportunities as you clearly have enjoyed and maybe had life experiences entirely different to your own and for them, budgets are just not that important in their lives.
Even if, like you, they had been glued to their TV or radio or read newspapers (and many never do), they may have 'assumed' that more information would be sent to them by HMRC? True, one should never assume but do you want these women somehow 'punished' for their apparent ignorance at the time?
Are you for real?
To repeat myself once again - I do not come from a pensions/finance background!
I don't want to punish anybody but there is such a thing as cause and effect. If you're happy to wallow in ignorance then there will be consequences and this is all that's happening here.0
