    Debt-free and Proud!
    Hi Everyone!

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas!

We got some money for christmas this year from my parents, so we are putting that straight towards our credit cards - I mean, it's money we never had, so we may as well use it for good.

I've just done January's budget using YNAB, as it's payday tomorrow. Should have £1090 to pay towards debt next month! Now, that's a good way to start 2016, if I don't say! :) :j

Off to the shops tomorrow because I got some book vouchers to spend.
    October 2015 = -13242.16 DFD 28/10/2016 £0 :T
  • Hallo All

Have just had a busy busy day in work. Doing flat out stuff. We used to be quiet between xmas and new year. Wierd but no longer the case.

Have a lovely night everyone. I am off home soon to start trying to eat my way through the Aldi £164 food mountain I have created!

    Hello Frugal Friends,
Pretty good day here with being sensible about money, despite a city centre trip:
*Took a packed lunch with us so only spend was 2 coffees - we even smuggled in contraband mince pies.
*Only paid 3 hours on car park instead of usual 4 & dawdled less.
*Bought nice thing in sale. Used a 'Monsoon' giftcard to pay for it so no impact on any aspect of the budget.
*Bought new undies. Yay! Used funds from Clothes Piggy so no impact on bank account.
*Found 2nd hand blu-ray I wanted in CEX for £2.50. Used my Personal Spends.
*Needed moisturiser. Made use of O2 Priorities 35% off code & used my Personal Spends to pay (v worthwhile saving).
*Amazingly, managed to find birthday gift for M-i-L. She is very difficult to buy for & can be quick to tell us if she doesn't like what we give her. Paid using Presents Piggy cash so again, no hit on bank account.
*mr f (a serious muso) managed to replace his knackered headphones for half the price he thought he"d have to pay. Paid using his Personal Spends.
*Bought a couple of items to put away in the presents box for next year - Reduced to £1-20 each.
*Treated myself to a magazine. Was trying to decide between two & went for the one with a free mascara as that worked out much cheaper than buying a mascara on its own.
*Making quiche for dinner to use up leftover pastry, ham & some of the cheese mountain.
*Set timer on washer for cheap laundry load overnight.
*Revisit meal plans & write shopping list. Bringing our shopping day forward a few days to make use of the local market tomorrow. It will be a small list.
*Free leisure tonight - intend to start writing thank-you letters, read & watch tv. Might knit another spiral patterny bit of sock.
    That's my list,
    F x
2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!
  • I am also going to teach myself to bake cakes too.

Well done you. I try to bake all our stuff and cook from scratch and it saves a massive amount. For example using value flour, and I can not tell the difference a 4 egg victoria sponge comes in at pence and lasts for days as it is fresh.
Fruit pies I make for the freezer when we have a glut can be made for 10p each.

    Good luck with your progress.

    Maria.

Sadly no chocolate eggs today Bob :rotfl:

Hope your back is better soon RFTA - I used to have that problem, and know how painful it is. Oddly, now I am old, I don't get it any more - if that is any consolation!

Cleaned own bin (after bin men been) - Done - 15p disinfectant & hot water as opposed to paying someone £60 per year

Do people really pay that?

Ally, hope you manage to sort out the problems with your car and DVD player :( I really like the idea of a TV with a built in DVD player, as I am useless with DVD players :o but you have put me off.

BTW I have tried the 2 lead clip thing with pup and GD, but he wouldn't actually walk - he is really tiny, chihuahua size but a bit longer and thinner (and hairier) and given he can't walk a) if he has a leaf in his fur, and b) if he has his coat on, I didn't hold out a great deal of hope to be honest :rotfl:

I have a food mountain too Maria :o It wasn't all from Aldi either! OH has added to it this evening by bringing back 4 more pheasants

Not much more achieved, did a route march with baby GD in her pushchair to get her to sleep, which will have hopefully burnt off some of the calories I have consumed over Christmas

Also a quick race around the park with the dog once DD had picked up the baby :)

Managed to pop into my sales unit with sleeping baby to check which bits I need to bring back tomorrow, and loaded up my car with boxes to restock :)

Dawn, we liked the idea of the built in dvd player too, we've had two and both lasted just over a year, we too have a cheap dvd machine plugged into it now :(
  • Great to see everyone's updates and well done on all that's been achieved today :T

@ziggy my next door neighbour (and many more in the street) pay £2 to have their wheelie bins cleaned everytime they're emptied  -when it was every week, that's a serious amount of money! We've now gone to fortnightly collections (sure the bin cleaning man is cursing that change!) so slightly better but still ridiculous imho. I get the cheap cleaner from Mr T (25p) and stick 1/2 in, top up with boiling water and leave to soak for a while and I'm sure mine's cleaner!

@dawn so pleased your back is better now - it's so frustrating and debiliatating! I've spent most of the day lying flat (and am fine like that) but have got up for a bit. It's the going from standing to sitting and back that's the really painful bit :( and bending - I had to tip the dog's dinner into her bowl ... will have to try to get her water bowl shortly to give it a clean

Anyway, haven't achieved much today :o haven't bought anything which is good (esp stuck in all day!) and sold the dog bed :T so overall in profit! Had an enquiry re the cat scratching post so fingers crossed that'll sell too!

Not tidied up & mum coming tomorrow  have warned her - she always comments on the mess anyway (I am messy but it's my house!) so - hopefully my back will be a bit better!

    Have a good evening everyone

It's shocking isn't it? Quite a few of our neighbours have their bins cleaned but slowly I am pointing a few in the right direction - one neighbour didn't even know how much she paid - it's only a few coins a month (mmm that would be a fiver then ;) this is the same neighbour who is always bemoaning the fact she has no money :rotfl:

Makes me feel mucky now, but do they really get that dirty? All our rubbish is bagged, so all that actually touches the bin is the (clean) outside of the black bags. It looks clean inside to me! Am I missing something?

RIFTA - do hope you feel better soon, I've suffered in the past and it's horrible. Mine went once in central London whilst working and I had a huge bag with me and had to get home on train  there wa about 30 steps down to station platform !!!

Also used up some OOD curry powder (2011. :rotfl:) for tea and roasted some BNS whilst cooking curry in oven. Will make soup tomorrow and freeze for lunches next week.
