Had a spendy day. Went to the 70% sale at books.
Got some brilliant gifts for birthdays and Christmas really cheap.
Nice one Gem-gem! :money:
Epic spendy day for me yesterday.I bought a cinema pass for a whole year.It pays its way if you go to the cinema more than three times a month.I'll probably be going three times a week.....
So,another budget to add to my big pile.0 -
Yesterday took me to 10/20NSDs, today SHOULD be an NSD, but we will see! Have found an awesome Mothers Days present for me mam but will buy it whenever my next spend day is! Also found you can buy the Jumangi game from our American friends overseas...hubby would love this! His birthday isnt till almost Christmas but may also buy this next spend day, technically I do have a present budget so I could use that but hoping to not touch it if I am careful and buy presents spread out over the year!
Sorry for the epic present post!!

Also maybe you're being too strict with yourself?
These are my rules, just to give an idea of what I allow:
What doesn't count as a spend:
-all bills,direct debits,as essential
-bus fares,as I have a yearly travel pass (so payment x1/year)
-prescriptions,as essential
-going swimming (x1 yearly subscription and payment once in the year)
-budgeted grocery spends.I have a weekly budget.Anything over counts.
-other budgeted spends.I have multiple budgets ie catfood and litter, vet's bills, presents, haircut, household goods ie washing up liquid etc, holidays, emergency fund....
Going over the budget means I lose my nsd,of course.
Each of us has different rules. What works for one person doesn't work for the other.
I also have allowed spends. For me that's maybe an essential foodstuff (bananas, milk, bread),could be loo roll, tampons,a light bulb...
It means that you don't splurge because you think you're going to lose an nsd (ie go to the shop just needing to buy soap and come out having spent £20),but get that essential item and still keep your nsd.
It's not cheating,it's canny spending. :money:
Anyway,hope this helps.
Thanks, was tempted to not include needed food/toiletries. Am on 7 now but will need to spend today as promised kids chip shop...I don't class my weekly shop delivered Friday though lolHave a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0 -
jodies - no apologies required for taking the time to explain your thinking re present buying! It might give others some inspiration.
I am pleased to announce the arrival of NSD number 7 for the Cauldron of Doom. We woke up to heavy snow this morning, and even though it is starting to thaw, we still ain't going nowhere to spend money. I have started a list for the next shopping trip, it currently has two items on it, cat food and eggs. Cats are still ok for a few days, and we have enough eggs to last over the weekend so no urgency there.
I do a monthly online Sainsbugs shop towards the end of the month when I get paid, and top up with meat, fruit and veg from the wholesale butchers/green grocers five miles up the road. The rest of the month I do top up shops at Ald1s, Sainsbugs and Tosscos, and my mission this year is to only get top up stuff once a week instead of twice. That means discipline and planning, of which I have plenty....but OH is a bit of an emotive shopper, he fancies going to the shops and can't keep his wallet in his pocket sometimes! For example, he might go to a supermarket for one specific item but he'll get seduced by the in store bakery and come home with lovely bread rolls, several packs of, which I can't eat due to a wheat/gluten sensitivity, and he shouldn't eat due to having diabetes and trying to lose weight. Added to which Sod's Law states I will have just put out a new loaf of bread which needs eating up, so umpteen bread rolls are superfluous.
Anyway, we all have our burdens to bear, and as he was on his hands and knees yesterday mending the shed roof before the rains came, I shouldn't really complain (even if it is fun!)One life - your life - live it!0 -
