If the pinging is working on the one you can't surf on, then it is either IE connection settings or software firewall

dns server should be your router, usually 192.168.0.1

albertross, I am wired to our cable router (shared with 2 other wireless PCs) and we connect dynamically to our ISP.
My ipconfig and the router's homepage shows 3 DNS servers, none of which is 192.168.2.1 for the Belkin router . That shows up only as IP address in the LAN settings.
Is this incorrect? If so how on earth does one change it when the settings have been applied 'automatically' on installation/reboot.
We do constantly get disconnects :(.

BG, that is googles ip, if you click on the link and it doesn't work, and pinging it does, then it reconfirms firewall or IE connection settings issue. Have you checked the settings in IE?

    Kaspersky firewall or AV?

Mercenary, the router won't show the routers ip as a dns servers, but I would expect the ipconfig to point to the router, rather than the dns server, because the router does the work
