It's been another bumper year for house price rises according to the flurry of indices that are published monthly by lenders such as Halifax and Nationwide, and bodies such as the Land Registry and Office for National Statistics.
Property has been a hot topic again this year, with growing demand outstripping supply meaning building new homes has been a major focus of the re-elected Tory government.

My mortgage has made me about £1k and that's tax free and real money not paper money. (Cash ISAs and ns&i index linked Certs).
House is about £60k but zoopla estimates are fantasy.0 -

Rather than valuing it in terms of pieces of printed paper I prefer to use a unit of currency called the 'home' A year ago my house was worth precisely 1 home. Just checked and as of now the valuation is one home. Should I no longer need a home then it might be worth thinking about what it might be worth in terms of other goods and services but I can't see any positive reasons that I wouldn't need a home so I suspect the value will be the same at the end of the year as well.
(For the mortgage stoozers, ours earned DW £1507 but it will be less next year as risk free interest access savings rates have fallen)I think....0 -

Agree about the vagueness of Zoopla. The house next door to us on one side is much smaller but Zoopla values it at 2% less; the one on the other side has a garage and a bigger garden but Zoopla values it the same.
Zoopla's also hopeless in flatland, where it can't distinguish between adjoining flats of quite different sizes, and values them all the same. It also tends to feature multiple valuations of the same place which it mistakes for different properties (Flat A, 15 Bloggs Road; 15A Bloggs Road; 15 Bloggs Road, Top Floor Flat; etc).0 -
I was the last person the buy a house in my street, 4 years ago, so I have no idea.
I bought for £68,000 (3 bed mix terrace with front and back garden, ex-council). 3 pos 4 other house's are private the rest are housing association house's.
I doubt very much mine is worth much more then I payed for it, even with extensive renovations.0
