    Do you speak the language?

There's nothing worse than living among people that you can't understand.

They even have their own eye test if you go to an opticians

  • I moved from London to Wolverhampton. Wolverhampton wasn't a small place but it was a lot cheaper. I loved the down to earthness of the people there, but after a few years was going insane from lack of stimulating conversation. Part of this was due to the circles I was moving in but it did seem that there was a certain lack of awareness of the world around us.

Sorry to all in Wolverhampton if I am offending you. Just my experiences.

I am not white british and at times it feels as if they are mean to you but this is only my opinion and I could be wrong
The son of a friend of mine was living in Newcastle so I went there once in 2012. He is an Egyptian Muslim, very much into his religion, and he was very happy there because he had a large group of Muslim friends to hang out with.

Fun doing what? Pretty much all cities have the exact same stuff. It's just that London might have twice as many shops selling the same guck or charge twice as much for the food
Have you actually lived in London? London is an expensive city but not due to high food prices, it's housing and transport that earns it its reputation. It's got it's share of all the major supermarkets and budget chains like Lidl, as well as a number of markets and local ethnic shops where you can buy food at reasonable prices, unlike a lot of smaller places where you need to travel 10 miles to find cheap food (such as where I live).

Although the prevalence of chains means you find the same shops, restaurants, coffee places and fast food joints wherever you are, there are certain things you won't find everywhere. It all depends on your taste. Things like the opera, the theatre and art galleries like the Tate are not everywhere. Of course not everyone is interested in such activities.

I thought you're supposed to stop having fun when you have kids
Says who? You are supposed to have fun WITH your kids if you have them.

  • The weather may be something you'll notice up there. In the summer, I like a day on the beach and a dip in the sea. On a sunny day, the South Coast beaches are packed with families enjoying the weather, not sure it will be the same thing in the North Sea, despite their attempts at a fake beach with real sand by the river.

The only time I went up there it was a sunny weekend, sweltering in London but still rather chilly in NC despite the sunshine. You'll also get a lot more rain.

Only for a few days at a time. Everyone knows about the rent, goes without saying. Transportation costs are made annoying by how spread out everything is. In Birmingham central you have everything you want in less than 10 minutes walk. In London many things (e.g. Chinatown) are a 30 minute walk or LU trip

All I know is London is the only place in the UK I've seen McDonalds be more expensive than other places. All your dirty restaurants stick a service charge on their bills too, the f*ck is that American wannabes
    Mortgage (Nov 15): £79,950 | Mortgage (May 19): £71,754 | Mortgage (Sep 22): £0

  • I have lived in London for the past 5 years and own a flat.

I want to buy a house and seeing how crazy the prices are is making me move to Newcastle . I have relatives there otherwise Sheffield would have been just as good.

I can buy a castle there with the money raised from my flat here.

I spent 4 hours a day travelling in London daily which I can save in Newcastle so that is 20 hours

It builds up but then people in there feel a bit different.

That is what I am trying to ensure I am 100% ok with before moving

Also I think career advacements may be limited
