moving from London to New castle

hi guys,

I am thinking of moving to New castle form London.

I am used to busy city and afraid that new castle will not be as fun( no offence to anyone). The reason for move is better schools for my children and buying a house.

in london in not very decent areas you are looking at around 400K for a three bedroom and one can get a castle in New castle with that type of money .

I used to live in smaller cities, Leeds and know what it is like but that was years ago.

can you share your experience if you have moved from a big city to a smaller city ?

what was it like ?

many thanks

Fun doing what? Pretty much all cities have the exact same stuff. It's just that London might have twice as many shops selling the same guck or charge twice as much for the food

I thought you're supposed to stop having fun when you have kids

    Do you speak the language?

There's nothing worse than living among people that you can't understand.
  • If you used to live in Leeds then you know what its like. Hasn't changed that much. If anything the larger regional cities have become better
  • As you are apparently 57 years old - how much 'fun' does it have to be?

Also, if you're looking to apply for jobs in Newcastle, it's probably a good idea if you learn how to spell it. It's one word, not two!

Maybe it's New Castle County, Delaware?

You're right, I've ended up in deepest dumbria and I can't understand what they are saying
If the voice is high and excited, I nod my head, if the voice is dull and drawl, I shake my head
  • Well i have been here few days and struggling to understand them at times

I am not white british and at times it feels as if they are mean to you but this is only my opinion and I could be wrong

What are the schools like in here

It can take time to 'tune in' to the accent / dialect but be careful, if one of them offers you something called Newcastle brown ale, take a sip and tell them that it is wholesome and makes your tummy tingle .. do not insult their newkie spewkie brown ale
The same applies with something that tasted like rust called Irn Bru if you decide to explore further North and end up amongst the Jocks
  • Newcastle is a pretty big place to summarise its quality of education; like any place it has a mixture.
  • I haven't moved yet. Doing research
