    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's a bright and dry morning here but a bit chillier than usual. Only me and my hubby are up as the girls are still snoring away. Hubby has just told me he will feel the need to test the smoke alarms in about 5 minutes....what a rotter :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:.

I will be mainly in the kitchen today trying to use up the leftovers. I am planning on making a turkey and leek pie and a gammon quiche just to be getting on with. I will make the pastry in a minute using my trusty food processer as I want to make 3 lots to use up the lard and butter bought for it.

Unfortunately the pain in my jaw has returned and I spent an evening and night in terrible pain until it subsided at about 3am. I'm not sure what I can do about it if anything and will just be taking pain killers regularly to try and keep on top of it. Fortunately, I was pain free for Christmas day so that was great.

My hubby bought me things to upgrade my computer so it will run faster. I also had lovely perfume and chocolates and a lot of owl stuff as I do love owls. I felt very spoilt and he liked all his bits and pieces too. I have ordered some storage boxes which will hopefully be here tomorrow or wednesday so we can sort out and store the decorations. It will be a big job but ultimately very satisfying I think.

Well, that's all from me for now, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

  • Afternoon (((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))))) if you need one.

Monday clean done, we took all the decorations down yesterday, they are now all together where I can find them.

Bed stripped, laundry is out on the line, blowing well, hope it dried, will be going out to fetch it in before it started to damp down. A bit of a funny morning, dull when we got up, then the sun came out, now we have sun at the back but dark grey clouds at the front.

I used the liquor from cooking the gammon and from the chicken, made a pot of leek and potato soup with carrots in!! Very nice it was too, there is enough for at least 2 more lunches. No idea what to have tonight.

OH is going to do a piece from me at DS2's funeral. I wrote out a rough idea of what I wanted to say, we have altered it today. It needs printing out so he can memorise some if not all of it.

Bad night again last night we were drinking tea at midnight, a struggle to get up this morning, but we need to get back into a routine. I may have a nana nap this afternoon.
  • Good afternoon all,

I hope you had a good Christmas if you were able to. We had visitors both days so I was preparing food for some time. Yesterday was a quiet day and I felt really tired. Popped out for some fresh bread today and bought pizza. None of us could face meat again for our evening meal so we have a nice fresh salad and pizza.

I have done some washing and Himself put the Dyson around downstairs. Yesterday I gave the kitchen a good going over and washed all the surfaces. We have enough chocolates to keep Himself going for most of the year :):)

Csarina I have thought of you many times over the last few days and I can't begin to imagine how you feel, but I did want to say your DH seems to be so supportive in your time of need. I know he has health issues but he seems to have stepped up to the plate. Enjoy your Nana nap.

Elona I am pleased you are safe, but that journey must have been a bit hairy. It must be such a difficult time for you as well but I know your family are looking out for you.

    Have a good day all,

    Candlelightx
  • Thank you for the warm welcome . Mrs LW you are always in the right place when needed thank you for your lovely response - today I'm thinking winnie the pooh braver than you believe !
Just having a quick cuppa be back later .
TA I have wanted to speak to you so often . Just to say your husband is at the best hospital possible . My youngest daughter 31 has complex life limiting health issues . After decades of misdiagnosis disbelief that
someone so young could be that ill all of which impacted massivly on her mental wellbeing and finally wrong surgical intervention which restricted her mobility for life our beloved gp referred her to The Royal and it's sister hospital . A round trip of 36 miles is worth every penny of the taxi fare . I bless them and our gp daily . P.
It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

There but for fortune go you and I.
  • Hello everyone,

Hope you all had good Christmases. Mine unfortunately didn't go as planned: DS2 came home on Christmas eve as expected. DH was merrily cooking the dinner on Christmas day. My dad was due for dinner. We had offered to pick him up as he only lives a 5 min drive away but he wanted to drive down. He duly arrived, unloaded his car, went to shut the boot and fell. To cut a long story short, I ended up in A&E with him at half one. He had broken his hip and was put onto a ward at teatime. They did the repair surgery yesterday morning. So I have spent most of the last few days back and forth the hospital and to his home sorting stuff out.

He is doing well and has been out of bed today.

Hope you mob are all well. Will pop back and try to read when I can :)
  • Good afternoon everyone, DD1 and I have just got back from walking the Cookie monster and had a much needed cup of tea, oh the bliss of the second cup!!! DD2, DSIL and my darling Zebra have just texted they are home safely having left after an early lunch at 12 and the Zebra slept all the way home bless him. He wandered up to me this morning as I was drinking my breakfast tea and pointed at my willow pattern mug and said in a voice of wonder 'Oma, BIRDIES!' as he'd seen the flying birds in the pattern, he's a very observant little person for someone not quite two. We've had such fun chasing each other round the house and earlier today he was doing a 'funny walk' plomping one foot down harder than the other so I copied him, next thing I know a giggling pickle had hold of my hand and said 'Oma, same' and we did several circuits past hysterically laughing parents, oh the joy of being Oma! DD1 and I are heading into the city tomorrow to see if we can get Christmas cards and wrapping paper for next year and to look around the sales to see if there are any bargains to be had, not anything specific but we'll visit Ikea as they have 10% off for family card holders until the 10th of January. Looking forward to a longer nights sleep tonight, pickles seem to wake up at 6 and a quiet evening too and perhaps a read of my kindle while I curl up in my armchair, sounds good to me.

POLLYANNA thank you so much lovey, if you knew how long it took me to even get brave enough to try to turn on the computer a few years ago you'd laugh! I was convinced that just looking at the perishing thing was enough to stop it in its tracks, we've reached a working understanding now though, it knows if it does anything strange I just turn it off and wait for He Who Knows to come back and sort it out, so it mostly behaves itself except for the odd little kick in its habits and I'm not nearly so worried about breaking it as I was, practise makes it easier so keep posting here pet, you'll tame the beastie yet!!! Lyn xxx.

Oh busiscoming, your poor Dad. Hope he recovers really quickly, stressful for you too.

Had a lovely day pottering about, got 3 loads of washing nearly dry outside, it's just finishing off in the drier. Cleaned the bathrooms and had a general tidy up, not too bad to say there are 6 of us here. Used to have lots more than that staying in the other house but this one is smaller, first time there have been that many. I have to say that I love having everyone here but with all of them out I have had chance to catch my breath!

I have also had the chance to apply for the job I have been doing since August, the application is nearly done. Nice to have peace and quiet to do it. I'll get DS2 to look over it later, he's good at things like that.

Haggis, neeps and tatties for tea - thought I would give the South Africans something traditional although after the black pudding earlier I'm not sure it's such a good idea!

Ventured out to see how much damage the flood had caused and the bridge is still closed to cars and pedestrians.

Making sausages and mashed potatoes with home made mushy peas for tonight and lots of gravy.

Youngest dd is being driven back to Liverpool tonight by her older sister and SIL so giving them a meal before they set off.

    Hugs to all
