O/S Daily Monday 28 December 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that need/want them x
Now getting light, wet underfoot again but not raining at the moment, blustery again too.
Lunch yesterday was egg, bacon, sausage, fried pots, mushrooms, beans and toast - this really cleared up lots of bits that needed it. Boys just had cheese biscuits, bit of gammon etc for a snack during the evening. Today I want to use up the LO turkey and gammon - so all the meat type LO's are used up and nothing gets wasted, so need to get my thinking cap on so I can serve it in a different way.
Yesterday here we just spent the day quietly at home, although we did just go to visit DH's parents for an hour. Thinking today may be the same, we had thought about going out but DH is back to work tomorrow but I'm still off and go back on Wednesday morning, but he's then off til after New Year. Nice for both of us not to be running around all the time! Tomorrow morning I will be visiting the bank and building society - both boys and ourselves have money to deposit, so want to get that done. I will buy just the essentials that we need whilst out tomorrow. Yesterday I did get DS2 to buy us another 2 litre's of milk, but tomorrow I can buy a 6 pint and 4 pint and a few other perishable bits that should see us until after New Year.
Today I'm going to clear my pile of goodies from under the tree and find homes for them all. I will spend some time in the kitchen, the menfolk seem to have been particularly fond of my HM mince pies and sausage rolls this year, there's no sausage rolls left and only 4 mince pies! Really pleased with my mince pies this year though, have spent ages not being able to make a shortcrust pastry I'm happy with that's edible, and it seems now I'm making it on a more regular basis it's better and I've found what works for me.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning nmlc, and everyone. Thank you for the thread.
I am up, not dressed though, and have tidied a bit. Just realised that it is a bank holiday (how did I not realise, am twit) so hope some shops will be open even if not for long as we need milk and fresh bread. I could make my own but don't know that I really feel like it today.
Mr weatherman informs me that it won't rain so may get some washing out for a blow on the line. That can blow about while I pick up the rubbish that next door but two's cat has thoughtfully excavated from the bin bags, determined little cat has got through wrapped rubbish, a bin liner, a second and thicker bin liner and a thick black bag. I would not mind but it refuses to come for a stroke which to me is not a fair exchange.
DS came in after a night out and sat watching TV and eating Ferrero rocher chocolates until 5.30, DH still slumbering away so I am going to grab upstairs washing quietly now and then have some toast and marmite. On the other hand I could go up noisily and clang some things about just to make a point I. e. Other people specialise in waking me up. I shan't though, as it would be vindictive and mean.
I hope that those who have had a horrid time recently will get some peace today.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning one and all. Thanks nmlc for starting us off. After the torrential rain of Boxing Day we had a lovely day yesterday with much sunshine and blue sky. Today promises to be much the same according to forecast, though it's too dark to see just yet!
ELONA when I heard Tadcaster mentioned on the flood alerts I immediately thought of you. So pleased to hear you are not affected. The floods on the roads around here have now subsided but all the fields and local playing field are still flooded. Hebden Bridge, which is just over the moor from us, looks horrendous from film clips we have seen on the news. My heart goes out to all those affected.
The food situation here is now under control! All the left over meat has been sliced up and frozen, bits and pieces of finger food has been frozen in portions and the remaining party food bits and pieces will get eaten today. It will feel nice to get back to sensible/healthy eating from tomorrow (I just need to keep out of the naughty goodies cupboard!!)
Have a good day all. A warm welcome to POLLYANNA, nice to see a new face. ((((((HUGS))))) where wanted/needed - CSARINA especially. Take care everybody xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning :santa2:
Miss tru ended up with the day off on Boxing day. She'd looked at the wrong day on the bus timetable and realised too late that the first bus would arrive 20 mins after her shift started. She rang her boss to let him know and told him she was about to call a taxi but would be a few minutes late. He said not to waste money on a taxi that would probably be more expensive than normal and as she'd worked Christmas Eve, they'd manage and she could have the day off
Meant to say the other day – Scampi had a mini Christmas dinner and ate everything except the sprouts :rotfl:
Friends from Cornwall are visiting Gloucester, they popped round yesterday, it was great to see them. We didn't plan on eating but I put a buffet together and we lounged on the sofa eating and drinking, their girls and Scampi entertained each other so it was quite relaxing. They gave us a fab hamper of locally made stuff (local to them!) and some homemade pickled onions.
I'm on my own today (hooray! lol) so I'm going to whizz round the house and do a quick tidy up, then enjoy the peace and quiet

Morning all
Fish fed, hubby has a cuppa in bed I've just finished mine.
AOD, I didn't realise either, not that I need anything.
I'm making bubble & squeak today with leftover cooked veg, I'll serve it with pigs in blankets & fried eggs
We had visits from both DS's and their SO's yesterday, lovely to see them all and it means all the gifts have now been distributed, just the ones we received to be put away and as they are mainly consumables that won't take long.
Have a lovely day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning all.
Thinking of all the people in the North who have lost their homes to the floods. How lucky are the rest of us!
Not sure what I'm doing today. Hubby doesn't officially doesn't go back to work till the 4th Jan but he has something he needs to sort out in Oxford. He wants me to go with him but I'm going to try and wiggle out of it if I can.
Bad news regarding Hubby's sheds. The smaller one of the two needs replacing as it's rotten. Bad timing! I was rather hoping that by the time it had rotted too badly hubby would have let go of a few things out the bottom shed so we could merge the two. Can't see that happening now but I'll try and persuade him to keep the small shed a bit longer and talk him round.
Saw my eldest son last night. What a difference a few months off the booze has made. He's transformed! So proud of him. I hope he continues to make progress. Alcoholism is so easy to slip back into.
Onwards and forwards

Good morning everyone.
The wind raged all night here and it's still blowing. No doubt it's raining too but I haven't looked. There's an amber warning out for Tuesday through to Wednesday so if I have to go out it'll be today. I am very thankful that we don't have floods and my heart goes out to those who are affected.
Yesterday I cleared out the utility room so there's a couple of piles to go to the tip. After the utility room I began looking for the unused bathroom scales and found them in the spare room wardrobe. They link to a Fitbit so I'm giving them to my mum who is enchanted with her new gadget. I just need to 'unlink' from my account and attach to hers. Might do that here actually.
Welcome to new members, you'll find lots of lovely people here.
The light is slowly pouring itself into my day which is my cue to get up. I only need done veg for the rest of the week, hopefully I'll get down to Glasgow on Hogmanay.
I hope everyone is safe - happy Monday to all.0 -
Good morning everyone,
Not a bad day here, skies are relatively clear and not too windy, enjoyed walk first thing with the girls. Now sat on sofa drinking tea, DOH has the cricket on, have taken DM a cup of tea in bed so we are all enjoying a lazy start to the day.
Yesterday was lovely, we had all the family round and I did a running buffet which everyone seemed to enjoy. Mum certainly enjoyed seeing all her grandchildren and my DB even brought their four month old puppy who is a sweetie and met his doggie cousins :rotfl:
Didn't get over to see Bill yesterday so will do that today, get him out and about whilst the weather is dry, certainly his Mum could do with the exercise, feel v sluggish.
Welcome to Pollyanna, take care to any poorly folk and hugs to those that need them. Have a good day everyone x0 -
Morning All
Overcast here but not raining yet. Yesterday was lovely blue sky and sunshine, even managed a walk in the park with one of the children's friends and her baby - what a sweet happy little 11 month old with a few medical problems but you would never know.
There's a house full here, DD, her 2 South African friends, DS2 and his girlfriend and me. They all went off to an escape evening last night and I did fajitas for supper, all eaten so must have been ok. Just cleared up after a big cooked breakfast including some Bury black pudding (actually not a fan I've decided, prefer haggis).
DD and friends have gone north in search of snow, DS2 and GF getting ready to go to Edinburgh, I can have a day of peace!
Welcome Pollyanna, well done on getting over your phobia.
Hugs to all those feeling a little under the weather.
Well done Scampi with all those children and visitors.
Have a good day. Take care. XX0 -
:santa2: Good morning everyone,
Hugs to everyone, who wants or needs one. Thinking of those with sadness in their lives at the moment. My heart goes out to all those affected by the terrible floods so sad at anytime but especially at Christmas.
Hello to pollyanna.
Its a nice dry day here with a bit of sunshine and quite blowy. I have a load of washing which I will hang out when its finished. I can't believe I'm hanging washing out in December:eek:
DH went off to work very early this morning. Yesterday he had finished by 5.30pm so was home reasonably early and at least we had an evening together, I hope its the same today.
DS has a day off today, so I'm sure he will be getting in the way:rotfl:
DD is off to London with her BF and then they are staying the night with her friends in Bromley. So won't see her until tomorrow evening as she is going to see one of her friends in a local panto.
Yesterday I had a good tidy up, so not much to do today, I need to get some fresh fruit, but that's about it. I have some LO turkey pie and cottage pie so that will do for our dinner tonight.
I think I will try to do a proper budget for the year, so that I can see where I can cut back and hopefully pay off our debts and start saving for a house.
Have a good day everyone. xSPC 11 #4450 -
Husband has emerged from pit. I wish I could sleep like that. I am going to have a bath, I planned a luxurious wallow the other day but had only time for a quick shower, I have showers every day but a bath with bubbles and a book is a proper treat. And I can have the water nice and hot too, gone are the days when I would get in and after three minutes, child would have escaped from daddy and be peeling off his clothes announcing 'I get in with you mummy'. That was lovely in some ways and quite fun apart from the state of the floor afterwards but not relaxing.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0
