There are also foods that can irritate the bladder, such as tomatoes or oranges, spicy foods and sweeteners. (probably more that I have forgotten). Have you been eating lots of mandarins and clementines over Christmas?
  • I wonder if it's because I drink a lot at work but not much when I get home or at weekends or holidays. So partly thirst because of that and because my body is used to a higher level of fluid...so if I don't get that it becomes out of balance and thirst is the way of telling me that.

I'm too young for prostate. Plus there would be other symptoms such as trouble passing, weak flow, not necessarily thirst.

You can't be "too young" for prostrate.

Go and see your doctor - whatever it is an early diagnosis is needed.

As mentioned, pop into the chemist and ask for a test for diabetes. 5% of diabetics are slim and led a healthy lifestyle with no conditions that would precipitate diabetes. We don't hear of this often but we exist. Tests are free. Please have one done.
  • Feeling hungry too :/
I'm away in couple weeks for my bday so I'll book appt when I get back if I still have symptoms. Not sure I'd want to go away if diagnosed and it'll be a waste

It might affect your travel health insurance too. Better to go when you get back, IF you still have symptoms. They might have gone by then

I'm not obese, either, and my husband's friend is very thin, but also has type 2 diabetes and needs insulin.

Lloyds and Tesco pharmacies will usually do a diabetes test without appointment, provided that they have qualified personnel available. Boots do tests at larger branches.

The test involves having you finger pricked and a drop of blood is fed into a monitor which reads your glucose level. (The most reliable tests are done after fasting overnight).

If the chemist thinks you are at risk, they will refer you to your GP and if your result is borderline, you will be given the GTT (Glucose Tolerance test) at a blood testing centre and this does involve a pre-test, after fasting, drinking a glucose drink, then having a retest about an hour later.

You don't need to wee on a stick, but if you have diabetes, you have to take urine samples to your GP or diabetes nurse, so they can test for protein (never had any, personally).
  • Hi

I have a medical condition with a fancy name but its basically an overactive bladder. No pain, but I do get slight discomfort in my bladder and the urge to pee a lot even when I have not been drinking excessively. After living with it for some time (it used to come and go) I started taking medication which has made a huge difference but I have to avoid too much strong coffee and alcohol.

Get it checked out though, best to be on the safe side.
