    Hello Festive Frugalistas,
Waved our guests off after breakfast & have been busy getting the house straight. Most of today & tomorrow's money saving activities will be focussed around........rubber turkey!! Yay!! You know how evangelical I am about leftovers......or leftovvers as they ate called up here......tho not by me as I grew up in the south.
*Packed up a box of baked treats for guests to take home with them.
*Stripped guest bedlinen, loaded into washer for cheap overnight wash.
*NSD. Mr f was going to pop out for carrots as I like a couple in my turkey stock but then we found leftover cooked ones in fridge so I used them instead.
*Turkey meat cut off & divvied up for batch cooking. Turkey supreme tonight, which will also use up the last of some cream. Have also frozen a tray of breast slices in leftover gravy for a 'free' roast dinner next month. Making stuff with the rest of the meat will be on tomorrow's job list.
*Pack cat's presents away. He received 5 tins of posh meat & 6 bags of treats. Despite looking like a prize fighter, he seems to be able to charm people into treating him.
*Foiled last piece of Christmas Pud to heat up later. Will serve with ice cream.
*Lunch will involve using up more turkey, cold stuffing & some of the cheese mountain mr f insisted on buying.
*Mum gave me £20 for the Car Fund. We were talking about it & I said I'd been surprised how quickly all my little oddments & PADs had added up this year, & she said she'd like me to pay this £20 as my final 2015 payment. Really aiming to step it up in 2016.
*Hang up nice top Mum gave me. She bought it for herself, never wore it (???) & brought it for me to sell on ebay or give to charity shop....but it's lovely. A purple 100% linen quite hippified style tunic type of top which I will defo wear myself so into the wardrobe it went!
Well, I think we are both planning a nice peaceful afternoon on the sofa watching a film or something & eating chocolates. I enjoyed catching up with all your Christmas activities. Take care now,
    F x

Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!

Hi all - sorry a bit late but I've been taking advantage of the sun!

Had a lovely long walk with the dog - can't actually remember the last time we were out in daylight & sun!

A couple of dicey bits with flooding on the roads but not too bad and we've got off relatively lightly. My heart just breaks watching the images on the TV

    On the MSE side .....

    • Walk dog somewhere nice done & much enjoyed - although it was really busy!
    • Change bed
    • Do a wash In just now
    • Iron Ready to start!
    • Check train times & ticket prices for Tuesday - catching up with a pal I see a couple of times a year & train should be substantially cheaper then fuel (originally planned as the Forth Road Bridge was shut but we've decided to stick to it!) £6.70 cheap day return so not too bad! They've changed the route though which means changing in Edinburgh (which I hate doing as it's so big!) and 1/2 hour between trains which is a bit annoying! Looking forward to the catch up tho' so will be worth it!
    • Shopping - cat food on offer / limit other sends - not too bad except they only had 1 flavour of the cat food which was a bit annoying so only got 3 boxes rather than stocking up. Some good bargains too! Grocery challenge starts tomorrow!
    • Do some colouring - my new hobby & very relaxing!
    • Put cat / dog food order away - rotate stock! Done
    • Meals from stores just had crackers & cheese for lunch, yum!
    • Soak in the bath with a book!

Enjoy the rest of your day everyone .....

Well, fuelled by an ecectic combination of leftovers for lunch, I found a burst of energy. Finished a box of chocs ( Use-it-up is good, right) & worked out meal plans for the next 2 weeks, prioritising leftovers & stuff in freezer. Wrote teeny tiny shopping list for tomorrow. Obviously had listitis as also made list of everyone who needs a thank- you letter. Mr f was chucking a few ideas around of how we might be able to increase our savings into the Car Fund. Have agreed to have our annual 'Money Summit' very soon, as soon as I've done January"s budget. In the Spendy Decades, I was heading into January worried stiff everytime I used my cards that they would be refused due to insufficient funds. Now I can't wait to begin another year of money saving! In May 2016, we will have been debt-free (except for mortgage) for 5 years!! The naughty old me never even managed to sustain 5 weeks! I was truly dreadful x

  • Happy Boxing Day of Boxing Day all! Thanks for starting La E

It's been another lazy day for us. I hope the weather is better tomorrow as I think we all need a good walk and some fresh air!

NSD today and we finished off the leftover Christmas veg and meat

I cut open a shampoo bottle to get the last bit out

We had friends over this afternoon which was nice

Banking checked and spending diary updated. FPL still to do

I didn't write out wedding invitations yesterday as I've decided to use a nice finewriter pen I have at work (instead of buying one!). Work is closed until 4th January so it'll have to wait

Supplies in the fridge are finally starting to decrease (apart from cheese!) so tonight I'll do a reckie of what we have in the freezer and a bit of meal planning. We should still be fine for the next week

I really should be doing some ironing but I'm sat with a whiskey and coke just about to watch another episode of Black Sails - well I'm enjoying it while it lasts!

    Have a fab evening everyone

    Afternoon all,
Dh had cabin fever but the weather still not good round here so we agreed to take ds's to Toysrus to spend ds2's Christmas money. We went at 4.30pm so town wasn't so busy. Ds2 was happy with his lego and I got £5.10 off the price by showing them that Amzon had it cheaper and they price matched.

We're continuing our use up (not just xmassy stuff but other bits ready for healthy eating January!)
kids have had a banana smoothie which used up the last of the baby spinach, a very brown banana, a chocolate mousse (last one) and some milk. Also had carrot/cucumber batons, a boiled egg & some ham.

Its been nice having a day just with dh & the boys as we'd had various members of the family staying since last Saturday and its just nice to be able to relax and not feel like I need to be checking on how everyone else is, if that makes sense.
