O/S Daily Sunday 27 December 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that need/want them x
Still dark here, but very wet underfoot, it's been raining since some time in the night but looks to have stopped, wind is less blustery too. Feeling for those in the North and North West flooding looks really bad again.
Yesterday was another quiet but enjoyable day. DH and DS1 went to collect my parents at 11am ish. I got up and put the joint of gammon in the oven at 8am, it seemed to take ages to cook but once it had it was so delicious and worth buying such a big piece - there's loads left. I also made an apple tart - which turned out to be much better than I thought. Lunch was a choice of gammon, turkey, prawns, smoked salmon, ham, hot potatoes, salad, coleslaw, warm rolls etc, dessert was a choice of apple tart or choc gateau, there was only 2 portions of apple tart left, so wrapped that and gave it to mum and dad to take home, I offered them some gammon too, but they wouldn't take any. DH took them home around 5pm ish, mum wasn't too bad yesterday, but she is getting really dithery but they seemed to have a nice and enjoyable day.
Today will be another quiet one, I think we're going to have a ride out somewhere possibly to the coast/visit DH's grandad - I suggested ringing last night to see if he's going to be home, DH said we'll just go if he's not home, we'll just have a ride/walk.
Food will be LO's from the fridge - hoping to stretch those as much as possible. Now thinking what different dishes can incorporate the different LO's in the fridge. I'm sure there will be several - need to get my cooks' and old style head on!
Have peaceful Sundays' everyone x

Morning everybody. All is quiet and calm here this morning after the torrential rain that bombarded us most of yesterday. I have never seen rain like it and the number of roads hereabouts that were closed due to flooding was unbelievable. We are safe enough on the top of our hill but lots of roads in and out of town were blocked off by mid-day.
We went to DD's as planned, armed with all the meat I had cooked here. DS, GF and boys managed to get up too by using the many diversions in place! From DD's house she has views all up the valley and we could see all the fields, roads etc flooded below. I have never ever seen it as bad as that before. Dinner was a bit delayed - but we have come to expect that at DD's! She had invited more friends and family for the evening but many couldn't get there 'cos of the flooding. Nevertheless, we had a nice evening with those who had struggled through and the bonus for me was that it didn't turn into the noisy affair I was expecting!
A day to ourselves today and it is much needed! Our presents are still all piled up from Xmas morning so they are to find homes for. Then I must sort out the fridge as there looks an awful lot still in there. Anything not previously frozen can go in the freezer and meals planned from the remainder for the next day or two. And I must put a washload on as the laundry bin is overflowing!
Have a lovely day if you can and (((((HUGS))))) where wanted/needed. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning all, as ever, been up for a while and have done some washing. Colder here today and very wet in the night though this is as nothing to the rain and flooding that others are experiencing.
House full of leftovers so Not much cooking today though I really want to have a proper scrub in the kitchen.
DS has been up, but gone back to bed, DH is up and making tea for me.
I am at my most elegant this morning, ancient rolling stones pjs now very faded, woolly socks that do not quite match and very old dressing gown. I will get dressed soon. And brush my hair, now bearing a striking resemblance to Cousin It.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone,
Really quite dark here and raining hard but no where near as bad as those folks in the North, my heart goes out to all affected.
Will have a busy day today as have the family coming over for the day so have a big buffet planned. The gammon is about to go in the oven, also have a couples of fish options and some vegetarian together with various salad bits and a big cheese board, don't think anyone will go hungry!
Had a lovely walk with Bill yesterday, felt so good to be out in the fresh air and my friend came out with me on the sweet little pony she is currently training.
After lunch we took the girls out for a ramble and DM come too, so nice to see her being able to walk much better now her legs have lost all that awful fluid.
Anyways, better get a wiggle on, loads to do, have a good day all xx0 -
Morning all
Hugs to Floss & Csarina
We are expecting DD1 today and he is bringing his GF, she is vegetarian so I will make some falafels when I'm dressed, DD2 may be coming too.
We went to DD2's yesterday and had a great time, her in laws were there and we all played Articulate which was very funny, the DGC all loved their gifts so all in all a successful visit.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning everyone.
It's still very calm outside though we have a red sky which may mean more rain on the way. Whilst we've had more than our fair share of rain this winter flooding has been confined to roads mostly so my heart goes out to those in other areas who are having a really tough time.
Last night I got caught up in listening to Radio 5 Live for far too long. They were covering the news of the flood and had people phoning in from Manchester, Leeds, York etc, as well as the smaller areas under water - some awful stories. Can't imagine the horror of it.
That means I slept later this morning so here's another one still in pjs. I'll make a move shortly. There's plenty of leftovers to eat as well as a huge pannetone which is not all that nice actually. Will try toasting slices to see if that improves it.
Hugs to those having a rough time.
Happy Sunday everyone.0 -
Morning all,
weather blasted dreadful, wet but warm. You wouldnt believe its winter would you?
Not a lot planned for me today, just a few bits in the house to do whilst hubby is in his man cave. I think the job of sorting out his shed is taking longer than he expected. Four tyres have been taken down but 4 part worns have been bought up. Still, they dont stink as much as the new ones but they are not staying.
Ive been watching the squirrels running through the branches of the trees at the back of my house. Such a pleasure on such a grey day.
Need to go shopping at some point. Not a major shop, just a few bits we are running short of but as yet, theres no rush.
Onwards and forwards,
have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Morning all,
Not been up longwas so tired yesterday after another day of socialising, have more family coming today 10 in all, as much as I love my family I shall be glad when things are back to normal
I need to have a hoover through and pop to shop for more wine / beer, we are having salmon with new potatoes and salad bits, so no real effort.
Got to have a look and see what puddings we have left and might have to buy something.
Have good days all xx0 -
Gers, you could make bread & butter pudding if it's not nice toasted.

GERS - I had an email from Delia Online this morning suggesting ways of using up leftovers and one recipe was Bread and Butter pudding using Pannetone, as HESTER suggests. I still have a huge one yet to open (and also a Stollen). When will I learn not to buy so much stuff!!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

I am not a fan if bread and butter pudding but last time we had a pan net one, I ended up toasting it and having it with butter, was much nicer than just as it came.
I am dressed and have cleaned the kitchen, bathroom nextI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0
