Is it cheaper to go throught insurance company?
My partner hit another car from behind - no serious damage a paint scruff on bumper - the other. The otherDrive said to pay of a paint job Private.
And not go throught insurance company.
I am thinking should i just go throught the insurance company as it may work out cheaper, a small increase in Premium compared to a bumper respray ( or handing over a cheque !)
Has anyone an suggestion or experiance this?

Just go through the insurance, the T&Cs of the policy suggest you should advise them of any incident, they can pay the 3rd party and you can re-imburse them if you wish.
It doesn't matter what the other car was does it?0 -
I reversed into a minicab a few years ago. The cab owner suggested a cash arrangement, I said no.
Ended up with a £650 claim for the car, and a £1050 personal injuries claim.
Go through the insurance every time, it saves any chance of comeback. The claim made no real difference to my premiums.0 -
I still believe that people are in the most decent and that any private settlement will go no further and therefore no need to inform our insurer.
Mind you we still leave the house unlocked and the cars are never locked at home.0 -

That's not really a case for going with insurers. The cab driver probably saw a sharp increase in premiums for the claim irrespective of fault! Taxi insurance is far from cheap! Since insurers don't like paying out for projected increases in insurance then the only other sure thing way of making sure the idiot who crashed in to you doesn't see you financially harmed is a PI claim.
For all you know the taxi driver would have repaired his car, never told the insurer and everybody would have been happy!!!!!0 -

Agreed. If I was the victim i'd take a private settlement on a small bump easy peasy. You make me involve my insurer and I won't be sparing you any expense!Mind you we still leave the house unlocked and the cars are never locked at home.0 -
somebody said it doesnt matter what type car it was but i would say that is not the case
depending on what BMW car it was it could be a very expensive car or it could be at the other end of the scale so cant say
if it was a new 7 series or a new X5 then i would want the car fully checked and repaired to BMW approved standards, if it is an end of life car that has been around a bit then a cheap repair by a back street spray shop may be acceptable
also a small scratch on the bumper may not be the full story and there may be more damage like bumper mountings or brackets that were broken or bent by the impact0 -

You both may have missed the obvious point, if one crashes into a 3rd party vehicle, then it doesn't matter what marque it is. Go across on the estate and you will see plenty of beemers. If I had a Kia and someone crashed into it, I would still want it repaired to the state prior to the accident. Whether the other party wanted to pay direct, they can pay the insurance direct and hopefully consider being more careful in future.0 -
Except ops asking whether it would be cheaper for them to go through insurance or pay for the damage, as such the car is vital as to whether its more cost effective to pay for it or not0
