Well I have a non-womble to report, the people selling the house would not budge on price, so anti-womble of £3k. However the mortgage is half the price of renting so I will have to start a MFW diary when I have a M to be F of.

Just yellow stickered bread and onions in my haul today, mini saving of £1.60.

I am looking forward to next Tuesday when the kids' 6% accounts mature and it all comes back into my account (the kids get the interest) before the house deposit goes out.

:( for the non-reduction on the house price, but :) for the savings at 6%. How long was the money tucked away for, if you don't mind me asking?

    That's a great womble Siebrie!

DH got a bit of a refund on his car insurance as we've swapped the cars on our policies, so £64.34 returned today. On the subject of cars, I was delighted to be offered all day parking FOC in Shrewsbury at an interiors shop, as we had collected various curtain samples and had parked in their yard. We gladly took advantage and walked into the town centre to collect a few things and returned an hour later, so I'm claiming £1 for that. Oh, and 5 eggs today, so 50p there. Updating signature x

It is the Halifax 6% kids' regular saver account, you have to pay in a minimum of £10 max £100 a month (you can vary it each month if you want) for 12 months, but as I have 4 kids, well, no-brainer! Then it all gets shunted into a 2% saver account after 12 months so I rinse and repeat.

Do you mean you open new accounts each year when it rolls onto the 2%?

Same account stays open, same standing order goes out, but every 12 months the whole amount (£1200 + interest)is swept into a 2% savings account, then I transfer it to my current account, which the standing order comes out of.

I happen to need the money at the moment, so it will all sit in my rubbish current account 0.25%, but you could just transfer the amount you want each month from the 2% to the 6%.

But you cant take money out of the 6% or you lose your interest, but it is handy to drop it down to £10 a month if you need to.

  • Totally new to this, but here's what I can think of so far this year.
£10 in vouchers for surveys, at least 2 meals a week, & a bath/shower a week, plus other bits I'll have to think about.
What would you put for a meal at someone's house, or a wash? (Don't ask :()
