Likely scenario is that the lease prevents separate dishes but that the clause is not enforced by the managing agents. Which could, as suggested, easily be verified by enquiring among your neighbours. The block may have a communal dish as well as a cable system. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I no longer see the point in this. No one on here can answer the questions that need to be asked.0

The agent as gotten back in touch and is asking:
In order to put up an aerial can you please advise me what is involved, does this involves drilling holes through the property walls in order for the cables to go through?
I should think it would involve drilling holes! Does anyone how many? They were willing for us to put in a BT line and that would have involved holes, although we went with the virgin route as there was already a line there. I am not sure how someone can rent out a place and not expect us to put up a dish or aerial at least.

Good, so they're open to the idea of you fitting an aerial. Did you ask about a dish too, to give you the choice?
In either case, again, no-one can answer without visiting your property. Have a look around locally at aerial installers and maybe get 2 out for a quote. Explain the situation to them and make sure they answer the agent's specific questions.0 -

thanks. i have someone coming round today to give a quote and options for the aerial. then i will get back to the agent, who is doing a property check tomorrow anyway. with the cost of the aerial and freeview box, i may be better off with sky if i can get them to agree with that. sky want to give me half price tv for 12 months so it may work out cheaper than freeview as they will obviously provide the dish. thanksQUIDCO £2827 paid out since October 2007:D0
