I need to catch up on here as I've been away from WiFi since Tuesday. I've been so I'll I can't tell you! :(
One good thing is I've not been able to spend anything, and all my direct debits have left the bank for this month!
Cards and gift have previously been bought and I have enough food to last the month so all is good!:T

I've been totalling money I have saved this month to put towards my debt, and It should be £315.00!:j

I haven't had much time to do anything but sleep my sickness off, but next week I plan to sell a few books so my savings figure may be higher. Either way, I am still on track with my spending:D

The damage to the car is to the back bumper, lights and also a scrape along the rear drivers side door. It looks like someone has drove into it and then drove off. No chance of finding the culprit unfortunately.
It has made me realise how important it is going to be to have an emergency fund if I am going to be able to retire as planned, so the next few months will focused on getting some money put aside for one.

Jess, would it be worth finding an estimate for the repairs before you tell the insurance? Sometimes paying for repairs can work out cheaper than claiming and paying excess, then having to pay an increased premium. This is easy to say without seeing your car of course so apologies if it's a pointless statement.
  • Sorry to hear about your car Jess, how rotten of the so-and-so to just drive off.

I had a frugal win on Saturday. DH needed a new coat and after checking out a few shops, just couldn't find the right one. I suggested trying the charity shop and BINGO! A really cool coat for £7.50. DH is thrilled, the coat is great and I just saved us at least £50 :-)
  • Hi jess444, that sucks about your car. I hope it doesn't end up causing you long-term financial grief (increased premiums, etc).

I've been busy the last few days trying to earn some extra money. My DH has been signed off with his back until at least mid-Feb, so he is definitely now on Stat Sick Pay. He's seeing a spinal specialist in mid-March, and I suspect he'll be off work until at least then. This means I'm surveying, Swagbucking, and cashbacking on purchases wherever possible. If anyone has other ideas for earning money, send them my way. I've also signed up for some mortgage reduction challenges for this year, but I'm keeping the money in interest bearing current accounts until DH is back at work and I know we can part with it. And if it has to be spent in order to survive in the meantime, well so be it.

The good thing is that our family's financial month runs from the 25th of one month until the 24th of the next due to our pay days. After reviewing last month's spending, we underspent in every non-fixed area (groceries, petrol, clothes, etc) apart from one, and that overspend was £2, so it was easily covered elsewhere. We did cheat ever so slightly, but only by using money that was gifted to us at Christmas to buy replacement items for the home (toaster, microwave, cutlery, crockery, mugs, saucepans, frying pans), all of which were bought in the sales, and all of which the money was intended for. But I say we cheated because it wasn't included in last month's budget due to it all having been paid for using gift money rather than from our incomes. However, we got all of that for less than £140, so I personally think we did well.

That's all I have to add for the time being.

wombatchops ......I think you are doing great considering the challenges you are going through at the moment. I'm sure things will get better for you. I'm cheering you on!:T

A frugal day for me today. I'm spending a few days at my friends so I took my stash of free food with me to share. We had toast for breakfast from the my loaf. Lunch was ham sandwich and salad. Dinner was chicken curry and rice. Everything today was items that my sister had given to me for free! I have also brough eggs with me, so will probably have them tomorrow.
I turned to chicken bones into stock, and will make a soup for my friend to have when I've left!
I've checked her freezer and fridge, and there is loads of food for us tomorrow, I try my best to save my friends money where I can and hopefully, my frugal ways rub off on them!:j
