January Update - Month 13
Mortgage overpayments £6,647.95, this was the maximum allowed without incurring a charge so no further overpayments.
Plans for this year include a lovely family holiday and then we will be saving as much as possible ready for next years overpayments, our fixed rate ends in March 2018 so we can then make unlimited overpayments without incurring a penalty

Nicely done
We've paid the full 10% fee free allowance for the year now too. Feel a bit flat not being able to OP any more, but saving achieves much the same thing, just doesn't feel as "solid" as overpaying debt!
Liking the plans for the year, and especially March 2018!0 -
Hello,
Thanks for the encouragement SSS, appreciate you stopping by. I keep up with your diary and am fascinated by your detailed financial updates. For me overpaying is the only way that I can be certain that I won't fall back into my frivolous ways.
February Update - Month 14
Oh dear! February didn’t really go as it should have done. I was more than a little tempted to skip the post for this month but anyway here goes.
Savings towards mortgage overpayments – a big fat zero:o
Purchases made:
Sofa
Bed
Carpet
3 dresses (all half price in sale)
2 bikinis
A variety of clothes for DD
As if this little lot wasn’t enough DD accidentally spilt a glass of water over her macbook - £291.76 for repairs:eek:
On the upside DH did manage to negotiate the annual boiler cover renewal and saved £50.
March is a new month, here’s hoping we get back on track:)

Great progress and think how great it will be to make a stonking overpayment :T:T:TA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Hello,
Thank you so much for the support GG and SSS, very much appreciated
July update - Month 19
DH received an unexpected bonus from work in June, some of this has been added to savings and the rest used for treats for DD and some bits for the house that were purchased in the sale.
Since reading the MK book and also the art of discarding whilst on holiday earlier this year I have been MKing the house. DD has been brilliant, DH is taking some converting – he is a natural hoarder.
Lots of trips to the tip, charity shop donations and some items listed on ebay – 4 items sold this month bringing the total to £250 approx so far this year which will go towards Christmas spends later in the year. The house is looking so much better and is easier to keep clean, still more to do though.
I took the girls to the vets this month for their annual vaccinations and check up. All is well and brushing their teeth every day (they are a tiny breed prone to problems with their teeth) seems to be working well as they haven't needed an expensive clean under anaesthetic since I started doing this a couple of years ago which is also great for them as well as our savings.
I have increased my pension contributions by £160 per month and DH has completed the paperwork to increase his by £240 per month. I really don’t like the way that the goal posts can be moved any time re pensions and retirement so will be focusing more on long term savings and investments as soon as the mortgage is paid off which will hopefully be by the end of 2018 if all goes well.
Savings for mortgage overpayment this month £1,270.

Hello,
August update - Month 20
Savings for mortgage overpayment this month £1,270. I can't wait for January when we can pay these savings to the mortgage.
A good month for decluttering with 6 ebay sales and 2 larger items sold on gum tree. The money from these will go towards the cost of Christmas. Several Christmas presents already purchased whilst on offer, perhaps a little early but being organised helps me not to overspend.
DH has been busy with DIY which has saved on the cost by not hiring a professional - it does take a little longer though
