in Credit cards
I have just had my first credit card (barclaycard) with a limit of £260 which isnt enough to hire a car for my honeymoon abroad. - they will not up it at all.
I applied for Egg and have been declined!! I havent a clue why.
Im thinking of going to nationwide next, can anyone advise if im likely to get one from here. If not where? Im aware if applying for a few my ratings go down. But i must have a card?
please help - im struggling here.

You could pay in more money into Barclaycard. So if you need £500, then put £240 into Barclaycard. Or is it that you need to borrow money?0

I asked if i could do that and thye said NO?
Money isnt an issue, I have enoughI just need a credit card to rent a car abroad.
I have found a car rental just below the credit limit, but if hidden costs are put on, I'll be in trouble as the limit is £260 - I want to cover my back incase of difficulties abroad.0 -
Try paying it in and see;)0

What about just getting a debit card from your bank. It would be quicker & should do the same job if its just security for a car hire.0

All car companies (where im going anyway) say it must be credit NOT debit card.
I already have a debit card.
Ive heard bad things on here about paying money into the card, like they can cancel the card???0 -
My first Credit card had £500 limit (NatWest), but I always put more in when I needed to make bigger purchases. (I was collecting AirMiles:p )
I just payed in normally (via web/phone/bank).0 -
Most CC's will return any amount in credit by way of a cheque.
Barclaycard are brainless halfwits, don't expect them to utilise common sense in their judgements.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

if barclaycard only gave you a limit of 260, and egg declined you, it would suggest your credit score isn't good. Making further applications will reduce the score even further if you do them within the next few monthsIt's a health benefit ...0

the other option would be to go for one of the pre paid 'holiday' mastercards
I know barclays do one

Couldn't you ask your parents to put you on to their credit card as additional card holder?0
