Boxing Day - What small debt free things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Good morning All

Hope everyone made it through the big day unscathed. And that Santa brought you something nice :)

Today I have been on to make a PAD already, am really motivated by seeing the monthly amount I need to find to be clear in 12 months going down by every £10 I manage. Truly amazing how a signature can inspire you.

I'm trying to decide whether to have another being at home day with a walk to a park to break it up. Or whether to go down to Mr S and get my 4000 nectar points added on. I have a coupon they need to scan to add them to the account. On our Christmas walk yesterday I found a reciept with 48 points to also claim. Oh and 5p in roadkill. Maybe I will judge by how stir crazy we all are.

Need to post my Christmas money (cheque) off to my online bank so will go to do that in a bit anyway. Box is just across the road.

Food for today will be more of the same really. We have loads of Turkey left, fine for bread, cheese etc.

Need to do the usual load of washing, that doesn't stop for anything :)

    Bob

We're having a no spend day today. The weather outside is frightful
    ... LOL ...
It's raining quite a lot although this doesn't seem to have stopped one of the neighbours banging on his fence, trying to fix it ( ? ), he did the same yesterday morning as well (yep, xmas day)
  • Thanks for starting Bob - I love finding Mr S "money off your next shop" coupons in the self service checkouts that people leave behind, that and the odd bit of change!

We're visiting friends today so I'm going to fill up the car. Hopefully this will last until the end of January

We're going to pop into town to pay in some cheques. OH's bank is open so I'm guessing mine will be. This will go in the savings pot until I decide how best to use it. We won't be going in any other shops whilst in town!!

    All meals from stores

Banking and FPL to do. I even managed a survey yesterday!

I hope to start writing out our wedding invitations tonight. There are only about 35 to do so I'm hoping it won't be too onerous. My friend got me a lovely wedding planning album for Christmas so I'll be getting my glue stick out!

Hope you all have a relaxing and stress-free Boxing Day

  • Hi folks, hope everyone had a lovely day yesterday. Not been onto this thread for ages so will be seeking inspiration please!

My plans for the day are to sort out a budget for 2016 - I've been terrible with money this year :o and have completely fallen off the DFW wagon ... it needs to stop!

A rather large plumbing bill (£500 ) has just about used up the last of my savings so really need to buckle down and get back on track.

Need to fit in a walk with the dog sometime but it's absolutely pelting down just now :( hope it clears up shortly.

Aside from that - need to do some filing (urgh!) and general sorting out

Ohhhh and need to stay away from Boxing Day sales - so might need to restrict pc use!

    Have a good one everyone:)

Hi everyone :xmassmile thanks for the start Bob :A I'm with you on the playing the day by ear. Although as much as the reduced section at the SMs are calling me I'm staying away as our freezer is overflowing!

Hi rising from the ashes  good to see you again! Sorry to hear financially things have run away with you this last year. Am sure you'll get it licked in 2016 though :D

So 10.30 in the DMS household and all is calm and peaceful :D so far I've tidied through the downstairs, stripped the meat off of the turkey carcass, played playdoh with dgd.

Have done this with music provided curtsy of oh's Christmas gift

    Other things for today:

    * load of washing
    * turkey and camembert quesadillas for tea
    * sprinkle roll that has gone hard (left uncovered yesterday) with a little water and bake again for a few minutes to refresh for lunch
    * will portion up and freeze lo christmas dinner soup mmmmmm
    * this yummy soup for lunch :D
    * playing games with dgd, watching telly and generally relaxing
    * probably go for a walk, not raining here but was yesterday so we didn't go out
    * stay away from sales!
    * bottle of wine and games night with oh this evening :A

    Ok that'll do me x

  • Hi DNMS :hello:- I was hoping there would be some faces I recognised - lovely to *see* you :)

I ordered a load of cat food just before Christmas - unfortunately she'll only eat expensive canned stuff but it still works out substantially cheaper than pouches from the SM so I'll let her off! Need to get the cupboard sorted and it all put away.

We get 8 meals out a 400g can so I've opened one this morning, have 3 meals in the fridge and have put 4 meals into the freezer :) (the mini-storage tubs are fantastic and just the right size for a meal!)

Having a repeat of Christmas dinner tonight (yum!) as Mum gave me the LOs - but need to decide what to do with the rest of the turkey as there will still be loads left! :rotfl:

  • Think we have enough xmas food to last us nearly 3 weeks lol so that's a big saving for us :rotfl::rotfl:
Still hoping that eventually money will grow on trees then we can all live happily ever after ☺
In the mean time we are 31k worth of debt but it is coming down slowly....
  • Having a stay at home day today. Not planning to spend anything for a few more days at least, and then it should only be bread and milk. We have left overs to eat today. Freezer is crammed. Shopping for next couple of weeks will be half shops while we use up all Christmas stuff. Think I over did it again!

Did buy a new cat bed on amazon deals this morning, but really needed a new one, it was a good price and it's coming tomorrow.
I love a bargain. Now mortgage and debt free. hurray!!:smileyhea
