The one at Scan that you posted doesn't look like it has an actual module with it,
Scan Single Gang Single Port Cat 6 Faceplate

    UT-899041 - Scan Single Gang Single Port Cat 6 Faceplate - 1 x Module + Blanks Included

Could be a lot of problems here from your description. First, don't trust that those £3 (on ebay, same as yours) cable testers are gonna tell the truth with a Cat6.
Thanks, though i did test a cat6 patch cable on there & it said that was working perfectly fine.
Start at the start, where does the cable run from and to? Did you run it and know there are no horrible kinks? You know Cat 6 pairs like to stay together until they need to be terminated, you need to keep those pairs twisted for as long as possible.
I've read this ... but why is it? Why do they need to stay together as long as possible?

If i keep them bunched up in that jack in the faceplate then they become very difficult to punch down. It gets way too crowded in there.
Cable runs underground from living room to hallway.
No i didn't run it. I kept asking about it being put in but they did it when i was back at work.
Cut the cable back and start again, any little nick in any of the wires can make it fail. Have you stripped the cable nicely? NO NICKS!!
Have done this numerous times. I'm running out of cable to trim back.

Just re-read your #9 post, as long as you're terminating correctly you are in a situation which I have seen a couple of times by good cablers, which means, you have to run a new cable again.

So you're not a fan of the 'faulty faceplate' possibility then?

For what it costs i think i'll buy more in, but after that then i will have to move on to a new cable run.

And with all the faff i'm having with this cat6 i think the next cable run will be cat5e.

Cat6 is horrible to work with ... simple as that. I can't see what benefit it brings over Cat5e.
  • In what way do you say it is horrible to work with? What are your reasons?
